Holy CRAP some of those cars were hairy-looking.

Rod Millen's "Tacoma" takes the cake though. I've seen many many videos of that thing, and every time, i'm completely floored at how ridiculously VIOLENT it is.

Lag... lag.... lag..... OMFGWTFBBQ

And the man himself has balls that clank. Getting off into the grass and NOT lifting, even grabbing another gear?!?!

Oof.

Also seen: The ridiculously twitchy 6-wheel formula 1 car. But the one with 4 wheels in the back. I about pooped just watching it.

Is that on the teevee, or has it seeped down to general access on their site? If the latter, have a link?

Your description of the Tacoma underscores why I think if I were paid to make a car go around a course fast, I would see turbos as a sensible answer depending on the rule book, but am having a hard time with using them on cars driven for fun...

It was on the teevee, but i recorded it the other day, don't remember exactly when it aired to be honest. Might be on On Demand if you have such things.

That particular Tacoma is a bit extreme when it comes to turbo usage, and also bear in mind it's something like 20 years old. BIG steps have been made in turbo performance. Lag like that is no longer a necessary evil.

The Tacoma was also powered by a 2.1 litre 4 cylinder. 503E race motor. 1000hp+ in race trim. Turbo specifications: "BIG."

Agree the Tacoma was nuts. Waaaay too much of a handful for a narrow course, even for a pro driver.
