First car I ever restored was a Ghia.
Never again. The body is plain awful to work on and is almost like it was designed to trap water.
I swore off air cooled Volkswagens after that car.
My old neighbor made swap kits to put Corvair engines in them.

In reply to aircooled :
The new VW motors might not be cheap as the once were but they are still a pretty good deal..........especially compared to air cooled Porsches.
Here is one I came across on CL. I have never seen one that looked like this one.. ever, real life or pictures. https://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/d/denver-1964-volkswagen-karmann-ghia/7635157883.html

I first saw a type 34 about 5 years ago and just thought it was so cool.
Of course being cheap as I am they are out of the question.
Type 34s are so HAWT! A top contender for my VW dream garage along with a Type 147 and a Type 183
So it is not a Karmann Ghia? I do like the Porsche style rims on it.

That's a Type 34 Ghia which is based on the Type 3 where the regular Type 14 Ghia based on a Type 1. Slightly bigger, different look and more engine(at least early).

Found this advertised on FB in Colorado Springs. NMNA
I'd steer clear of that one, it has disk breaks. No one wants their disks breaking!

The early Ghia's are so good. I love all of them in hardtop form. Always wanted to do a 2300CC with a bus trans. Who doesn't need a Ghia that does wheelies?
In reply to stroker :
Damn they want just 7500 for that? If I had garage space I would figure out how to get that real quick. And I hate Subaru engines.
There used to be a company that converted the rear fan of a bug/ghia to look like the rear fan and fan shroud of a 911. I always thought that would be a cool look too.
