Back in the 90s there was no internet per say There was no real coverage of the JGTC We had nascar and indycar and local road racing if you were involved with the scca. What most of my generation did not know was this was going on in Japan. For those in the know and the generation after mine that were much more attuned to the JDM scene this was what all the excitement was all about. It also explains why so many wanted to get the R33 and the R34 here in the states.
Anyway if you are interested in more and understanding the excitement and the epic battle between the two titans of Japanese motorsports carve out an hour and watch the video below. I really enjoyed it.
That keeps popping up in my suggested videos but I haven't dedicated time to it yet. Thanks for the endorsement- I'll watch it.

This should be required viewing before the next series if we do end up with JGTC cars

I'll admit that I totally overlooked that as someone born in 1994. (The internet was just starting to be a regular thing when I was a kid. No, I don't miss dial-up.)
Looking at it from that angle, I can see why the first few Gran Turismo games had such a big impact. If all you knew where domestic cars and what did get imported from Japan, cars like the GT-R would have been pretty mind-blowing.
Thanks for sharing.
It is an awesome video. I loved all of the JTCC footage. I enjoyed watching it the other day.
I totally forgot that the gt500 motor was a 3s-gte decentant and not the 2J. It's been a while since I looked at these cars.
I did always think the Toms supra was a beautiful car and the best looking in the series.
