I want to put it on a carbed 350 Chevy. Does nos care about compression ratio? Piston type? Crank ? Has to be challenge minded.

It will produce more powah under any circumstances! If you're looking for more than a trifling bump in horsepower, or if you care about your engine, be sure to go with a "wet" system that will add fuel in addition to the NOS.

Don't granny shift or blow the welds on your intake

Plus, you'd better make it 2 bottles, the big ones.

And you need it by tonight.

I know that Burt Reynolds used it in his bitchin' red Trans Am in Hooper and it wasn't enough. He needed a rocket.

In reply to 1988RedT2:

The wet or dry thing is depending upon application. Nitrous Oxide is basically cooled and compressed oxygen. That said, nitrous actually works better on higher compression ratios, and it can be harder on your engine if not done properly or attempting to get too much from it. Forged is always best, but the others should hold up for a little while.

As far as adding it to your carbed chebby, just get a carb plate.

Perzackly! And too much oxygen vs. fuel and you go lean and Kerpooie! Well, technically speaking, anyways.

You must observe proper air/fuel ratios!

You'll need a bigass fuel pump, run colder plugs, you want less ignition timing too IIRC.

Its surprisingly hard to blow a SBC up. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0406_nitrous_350_chevy/viewall.html

Just don't be like this guy and dump two bottles of the energy drink into your gas.

Yes, get a wideband.

I only mention the applications, because well.....the gen1/2 sho's can blow the intake manifold off if running a universal wet kit and getting a single backfire into the intake. We have to either run direct port or dry. On a carb setup, you could do either, depending on how you set it up.

Now the jokes are over. I am looking to run in the 10s with my 2800lb 350 Sbc 700r4 4:56 g body I think the factory hp rating is 310 on a 96 lt1. How much nos to achieve that goal. Without a kaboom !!!

Safe limit for a 350 with stock internals would be 150 shot. Not sure if that is enough to put it in the 10s though.

Plan on needing 450 at the wheels. If you are at 300 now that's 250 at the wheels optimistically. That's a 200 shot.

You can run as much as you want as long as the AFR is kept in check, until the internals can't hold up to the cylinder pressures and crack pistons, bend rods, and all sorts of general sabotage on your engine.

I kinda looked into doing exactly what you are, bottle on a G body. With good tuning, a 200 shot should be safe enough on a gen 1/2 small block.

Nitrous is OK, use forged pistons though. Hyper-u's will crack under nitrous detonations like a ceramic plate. That said, anything will take a 100 shot. LOL Stepping up to 150+ will require some thought. Wet system on a carb plate should be fine for you. Nitrous is lots of fun, but like anything that fun, use responsibility and care and you'll be aight.

Please for God's sake, call it nitrous and not NAWS... ANYTHING but NAWS, please!

Compressed oxygen would be O2. Nitrous Oxide is N2O which is oxygen gas (O2) bonded with nitrogen gas (N2). When N2O is broken down it ends up saturating your air/fuel mixture with a greater concentration of oxygen. Normal air saturation is about 21% O2. The combustion process with break N2O down such that your now running an O2 concentration of about 33%. The reason forged internals are a good idea is because during combustion O2 atoms are freed from their bonds to nitrogen in an exothermic reaction, meaning more heat is produced than was required to break the mixture down. This is the part the gives you your power increase, but also increases engine wear.
