buddy thinking about picking it up for under $1k for rallycross.
thoughts?
go:
is will have lsd recaro's and big toolkit in the trunk. If he has no experiance with Bosch cis injection and plans on keeping it he should get a book. There are several good ones on the subject. There is good info in the faq section at bimmerforums.
Look out for rust. The front swaybar is used to locate the control arms. It has a semi trailing arm rear suspension. The M10 is almost bulletproof. From personal experiance gutting it will increase ride hieght around two inches.
it's really the suspension setup effectiveness for RX that I'm most interested in. I have an M10 e30, so I'm pretty familiar with the drivetrain.
The stock springs are soft, but profound body roll helps the car turn. KYB shocks are cheep and will keep the car elevated.
The LSD, at 25%, helps. I would recommend a set of Firestone Winterforce tires on all four corners, just use the factory steel rims.
The steering rack bushings will probably be in need of replacement. This is one of those jobs, that I would pay some one to take care of.
Redline MTL in the transmission.
Keep the motor stock, just give it a complete tune-up and adjust the valves.
I think this is the same car you posted in early 2011 Yo...by the way, I am the "Buddy" he references :)
Well, the old Capri has a very similar front suspenstion set up. I have a friend who did Rally X in one and it seemed to work okay. Not sure about the particulars on the BMW, but the general approach to locating the control arms seems to work fine.
Irish CIS is a whole nother mother to deal with than whats in your car. I know of one guy who does stage rally with his. As far as I know besides a buttload of poly bushings he has a set of custom coil overs on it. I believe everything else is stock as far as suspension.
Poly rack bushings were a night and day differance on mine. I put them in myself. Took me about two hours, plus alot of cussing. I wouldn't pay to have it done however.
