SWMBO's bmw (07 328 xi) got a S.E.S. light, code was P1447, which is Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage Pump Too High During Switching

Any way to verify that this pump is bad and is this part a BMW parts dept only piece I cant find it at any of the normal parts stores online catalogs

Check realoem.com for the part number. Unlikely you'll find it anywhere but a specialist.

Generic code readers a pretty vague when it comes to modern BMW codes. If you can get a dealer or indy to read it with a BMW-specific computer you'll likely get a much more detailed diagnosis.

You can check the various BMW forums, it seems to be a fairly common issue. This one has a fairly long writeup on the issue E90Post.com

How to differentiate between the dtml pump having an issue and SWMBO just not tightening the gas cap? Have the code reset and hope for the best? Seems a pretty useless part unless your worried about a leaking gas tank.

And amazon has the part for 80, thankfully the dealer price was twice that.

Leaking /loose gas cap won't throw that code, it will throw a P0455 instead. From an Euro technician, replace the DMTL pump.

Make sure the Amazon part is OEM, not some cheap Chinese part. Too much of that stuff going around these days.
