Looking into one for a reliable dd. What are your thoughts, how is the interior noise, engine, drive train, etc?

i dont know much about that awd system, but when i was helping my mom look at one, the crappy v6 and 3.5L base model got the chrysler transmissions while the v8 (and 3.5L optionally) got a 5 or 6 speed mercedes derived trans. at least thats the info i found about 5 years ago when we were looking.

i honestly really liked the (rwd) hemi powered 300 we drove. lots of glorious v8 sounds, great power, i thought it was comfy while handling really well, had an awesome turning radius, and was pretty cool looking.

thirstier than the rwd version - coworker had an awd magnum and I have a rwd one.

nice cars to drive - look larger than they drive but they're still big cars

AWD is a nice option that should be avoided. It is a single speed MS140 transfer case. I never worked on a AWD model in any LX flavor. They are all RWD here.

They are medium large cars but not Caprice/Grand Marquis large, as most people want to say and believe.

Avoid the 2.7 like the plague, anemic and problematic. The 3.5 has good power, but be careful of a upper end noise caused by broken rocker stands, probably a $600 dealer repair. Both of these V6 models have the 42RLE transmission.

The 5.7 version is very powerful for the given weight and size of vehicle. The NAG1, or modified MB 722.8 or 9, is fairly bulletproof outside of annoying leaks out of the electrical connector at the trans pan front corner.

The only real big issues are they eat outer tie rod ends. The ends are way too small for the vehicle size. Also EGR valves and misfire codes. It sucks to replace them, but plugs should be changed religiously at 30k intervals, even the 16 the Hemi takes.

Fuel economy sucks, it is a Chrysler product. It is a given.

in 05 we looked at a 'Special Edition' package or something that used the V8 trans with the 3.5L and had the hemi spec seats and stuff, but perhaps it was rare enough to not matter in the used market.

I could be wrong on the 3.5 trans...Haven't seen one in over a year.

I'll also add the trans is "filled for life", so no dipstick. Altho I do have the special service tool for that.....

seems from my research that the awd option only comes mated to the V8
