So before I get the 90 Mustang LX registered I need to decide how to insure it.
I will be driving it less than 5000 miles so that is checked off.
It will also be garaged.
My main concern is I will be using the car for a few track days now and again.
Does anyone know if the companies get sniffy if you do track days with your old street car?
In reply to Tom1200 :
Hagerty doesn't care, but its not covered during the event or in the paddock. They have alternatives that will cover it during that time though.
Another good classic insurance is Grundy. They are slightly more restrictive than Hagerty but cheaper also. The quite I got was 50% cheaper, I still kept Hagerty though.
In reply to Tom1200 :
I've got the Elise insured with Hagerty and while they'd like to sell me track insurance for it, they don't seem to have issues with it going near the track in the first place.

My shop does insurance repairs for cars insured by Haggerty so I can give a different take on their services. If your Austin Healey was sideswiped or your Ferrari was in a garage fire or a tree fell on your Mustang in the Willamette Valley and you have Haggerty they will recommend us as your repair shop.
Haggerty has never questioned any repair, they have never balked at any cost, they have never asked if we could do it cheaper or to a lesser standard, they have never said anything other than "let us know if you find anything more we need to cover"
It is impressive enough that I absolutely will use them for my next roadworthy classic.

No different than most any insurer. If your tires touch a racing surface, you aren't insured. Most policies specifically state this now. Doing track days isn't something I'd probably disclose just to avoid problems. Just know that if you do a track day, you aren't insured. And don't try to make a claim pretending it happened somewhere else. We are pretty good at sniffing that out.
Track day insurance is typically a separate thing. The tow don't necessarily need to know about each other nor be with the same insurer.

Considering hagerty owns motorsports reg, they are probably better equipped than most.
May be difficult for them to not know.
I have hagerty for my bugeye, but it's not about to go on a track day. No complaints. They actually reached out to me to tell me they thought my car was worth more than it was insured for the other year.

Have heard Grundy bumped rates to match Haggerty. I have a similar use case to yours in terms of fun toy car with Autox and HDPE type events. I have been very pleased with Haggerty and really like who they are. They are truly car people and also run the Radwood events. Super affordable way to insure your car and comes with guaranteed oem part support for repairs. For my non-daily cars Haggerty will be the one taking care of me.
I explicitly told Haggerty I tracked the car during the application process. No problems getting coverage.
In reply to Apexcarver :
They also own one of the main insurers that provide short-term insurance for cars running HPDE type events.

Thanks for all the information. Once I get closer to putting it on the road I will call them.
We use Hagerty for our 68 Ghia. No track days but they have been great. $400/yr.
I've recently been shopping insurance for the new-to-us 2008 Corvette with an agreed value of $26,000. So far...
Hagerty - $861/yr
Grundy - $333/yr. No mileage limit but sounded very restrictive on use (What? You want to use it for something other than parades and car shows?)
NCM - $343/yr. 6000 mi/yr., no more than twice per week to work. From some of the correspondence it looks like it's underwritten by American Modern.
American Collector - $703/yr.
American Modern through our local agent (bundled with our other cars and home) - $274/yr. Similar mileage and restrictions to NCM. Side note: American Modern's corporate offices are located here in suburban Cincinnati.
The car will not see any track days or autocross, strictly date nights and weekend trips. I am waiting for final info from American Modern but they seem to be the winner.
I hate everything about the business of insurance, but I will say Hagerty has been pretty awesome. I have two vehicles under them, and the cost for full coverage is hysterically cheap. I'm not saying squat about doing track days, but they also own a very popular track day registration service (along with most everyone's former favorite car magazine writers) . . .
I was with American Collector who were FANTASTIC when my ACR got hit. Like moved heaven and earth to get it done. Plus they insure kit cars and projects in progress for a fee.
Recently I moved to AAA, I a paying 401$ a year for ~150K worth declared value that is garaged at 1K mileage per car per year It was about 805$ with American modern for about 245K work of cars and one of those was the ACR which I had to pay a bit of a increase in premium for.

Update: I went with Hagerty. The rep was clearly a car guy and walked me through everything as well as offering some options.
I signed up for the members club as well.
Just went thru this and went with American Collectors. Stated value 7K, they were $100 which was half the others.
