A recent job change has led to a significant increase in the amount of miles I drive every year. Thankfully my company pays mileage at the federal rate. I have put around 14000 miles on my current car in the last four months. Due to this change I am currently looking at CPO Lexus GS 350s with the F Sport package. While I think that the car is somewhat inferior to the 535i with the sport package, I am considering the Lexus due to the internet reputation (myth?) that Lexus vehicles never fail etc etc etc.
We have all heard the stories, now I need some truth from the cognoscenti, or those who have owned similar vehicles. To be clear I am not interested in hearing about the great FWD Camry or Accord or Fusion or Taurus, I am looking for RWD or AWD in this size range. No Hyundai or Kia. Also, while I would consider an older LS, I require a loaner car if the car breaks while traveling because I have to get to the meeting.
I am very close on a couple of CPO Lexii. Learn me....
The lack of people posting things to watch out for is a result of there being none from what I've seen heard. Iirc someone on here has a hybrid one that they have had on track with favorable results. Enjoy.
I have a gs430 that's closing on 260k miles rapidly. I bought it broken due to a shady car lot not replacing the water pump when they did the timing belt. So the original water pump failed at around 200k miles taking the timing belt and a couple valves with it. Not the cars fault at all and the cylinders still had nice cross hatching and everything looked clean in the motor. I rebuilt the head and have had literally no mechanical problems from it since. I have had to replace two door lock actuators and lube one window motor track. The hvac damper actuators are acting up and I'll replace them shortly. I just recently rebuilt the front suspension at a cost of about $1200. For 260k miles I would say that's pretty dang good. (And remember the suspension was working I just wanted to restore the original smooth ride.)
I've had mine on track and while it's very very heavy (3800 pounds) it was still fun. It desperately needed some race brake pads!!
Thanks for the feedback. Guess I should go pull the trigger.

This isn't as directly relevant as you'd probably like but owning an 09 GS450h makes me want to own other GS's i dont need, even of that older body style. Honestly, the newer body style is something i mildly lust after. I think they are sweet cars as long as you don't hinge on dynamics alone. They are sufficiently fast and pretty and reliable. The handling of an F Sport might even be fairly good. I cant say much bad for any modern GS besides don't buy a hybrid and not expect battery problems.

Thanks for the info! I keep hearing only positives for a couple of generations of GS. The current CPO unlimited mileage warranty in addition to the reputation is too much to pass up I think.
Another yes vote although mine is a different generation - 1998 GS400. Bought it recently with low miles (100k) and it's been great so far, I replaced the original serpentine belt and tensioner due to some really light belt squeaking at startup. It makes an awesome trip car for me - comfy, plenty of power, and easy to drive for hours at a time. Just did a 1200 mile trip last weekend to San Diego and back. Cruises nicely at 85 mph
The gs350 is faster than my gs430. And I know my 430 will hit 120 on the back straight at mid Ohio. I bet the 350 would smoke it!
