yes.. the 124 and the X are two different beasts. Both are wonderful sports cars from italy using fiat underpinnings from their more plebian sisters.. that, wiring, and a propensity to rust is ALL they have in common.

To be honest, until the Miata came out, the 124 spider was the LAST of the traditional sports cars. Front engine, A VERY easy to use convertable top, decent interior space and trunk, and modest power and handling. As much as an MG owner might argue the point, the fiat was a better car.

the X is almost a baby ferrari. It's weight is all carried inboard of the wheels, it has a removable hard top targa (I think only the 914 used that system, but I could be wrong) and for it's size, it was amazingly overbuit and roomy. There was little to anything that could keep up with it when the road got twisty.

I hate to say it.. but italian electrics always reminded me of Spaghetti. the wires seem to run every which way for no reason, and it seemed that from car to car (not even different years) the colour codes changed.

If I had an X.. (and I do want one) I would loose the bumpers, add some abarth flares (probably needs them due to rust anyway) wide wheels, and consider either dropping a twin cam in or going for something more modern. Honda K series maybe?

Hey Raze I guarantee there is nothing wrong with the stock Bosch ignition control module they are bullet proof I had an MSD on my X it stop working I put stock one back on and it works fine there's probably a wire that came off the coil happens all the time.

as fair as all of the problems that everyone is talking about there is a simple solution for all of them Xweb is your friend.

thees cars are no different than any old car name a car any car and someone can find something to complain about it .

the best thing your going to find if you get the Fiat X1/9 is on Xweb we have lot of experts just to name a few we have 5 time DSP national champion Steve Hoelscher he is our trans/suspension expert and Bob Brown is our electrical expert and we have countless more.

I've spent the last 24 hours pouring over that site, it's pretty sweet, luckily the cars aren't that complex so that really helps troubleshooting :)
