I've owned my current AE86 Toyota project since 2001 and have always owned at least one of these cars since the mid-90's. The seat upholstery on these is always blown out. Big bolsters on the factory seats plus often-abused cheap 80's car means that good original parts are impossible to find, and Toyota replacement seat parts were discontinued over a decade ago. I've always wanted one with a near-perfect OE interior, and have spent years haunting online forums and swap meets and haven't had any luck, so now I'm looking at getting the seats reupholstered in the original fabric. Carpet, dash, and console are done, and the front seats, rear seats, door cards, rear side panels, and dash all have a matching scheme, so I don't want to settle for some generic mis-matched fabric for just the front seats, and would also rather avoid redoing the entire interior to have a matched, but non-original car that wouldn't be the vision I've carried in my head for a couple decades.

How does one go about finding such a thing? My Googling lead me to reading about Detroit Books as the definitive source, but I haven't yet found one for 1985 either online or at a local Upholstery shop.

The local upholstery places I've tried so far seem to be generalists  (furniture/auto/boat/RV) that want to use some non-matching fabric and don't seem equipped or interested in finding a match, or are tiny specialist restoration places with enough leather/collector European car projects that they don't seem too excited by my project.

I sent off an email to Albright's Supply today, so we will wait and see what they say.

Any experience/suggestions from the Hive?

Post some pictures.   Is this the checkered or herringbone pattern?  If so, my local upholstery shop had a similar fabric that looked real close.  Maybe someone has a parts car with good fabric on a back seat that you could re-purpose.
