how much extra weight does that add to the nose assuming you upgrade the trans at the same time?

It applies to both. Both generations used the same engine/trans. You can bolt the Alpha trans to the Beta engine, which offers the better clutch. IIRC it's about 40-50lbs different between the two engines.
