I've got a roll bar in the miata and it has a cross bar that could be used for harness install I am assuming. I've also got a Bride racing seat on the drivers side with the sub belt hole. So I know the sub belt will require a hole/drilling into the floor am I better off with a wrap style or bolt in style for the shoulder straps? Do the lap belt straps require additional holes or can use the stock seat belt ones?

This is primarily for autoX and I am looking at placed like Saferacer for the cheaper end of the 5-6 pt camlocks (or was looking at camlock)

All of the seat belt manufacturers have installation guides that discuss how belts should be installed and the proper angles they should be installed at. Shoulder harness angles if too low can cause compression injuries to the spine and if too high not hold you down into the seat. Lap belts if not installed properly can cause internal injuries and should fit securely around the pelic area. If your seat reclines the sub belt should be used at all time to hold all the other belt in place while being worn.

I would get a copy of the manufactures recomendations on line and then look at your present mounting locations will fit within the guide lines if not modify mount locations as needed.

I have no doubt about being able to install either correctly. I just don't understand why I would choose wrap vs bolt in. Wrap would seem "cleaner" install wise but I don't know if there is a reason to do one vs the other.

Use whichever's convenient.

On a true race car I would go for a wrap style if that works, I have used the stock lap belt mounting points when the angle of that mount works. Most times the mount inside the rocker (Left side for a driver)works fine for the right side I have just drilled a hole in the trans tunnel and using the correct size washer mount the lap belt there. On many FWD cars the center hump has an extra layer of sheet metal to stiffen the chassis so I try to use that part for my mount.

I prefer wrap for a couple of reasons, but I always make sure the belts can't slide sideways, especially if you are working with the stock seat. Using a seat with the holes through it for the belts makes that less important, but I figure a good side impact could let me, the seat and the belts move over, where if the belts are retained, I might stay a bit closer to where I need to be.

Since we're talking harnesses I just want to tell a story about sabelt usa. We bought sabelt nascar belts for SWMBO's mr2 during the build and several months went by before we realized they were too short on 2 of the belts (1 each side), we realized this right before a race weekend and were gonna be berked if they didn't have them in stock. I called and talked to a guy named Maury(?), he was the single most amazing customer service rep I've ever dealt with. They didn't have the right ones in stock and it had been months since I bought them so I thought well I'm berked and will likely have to pay for them and miss my race. Well, Maury was not having any of that, he called around and found "a local NASCAR team" that had what I needed and he drove out to their garage and picked them up personally then next dayed them to me WITHOUT accepting payment from me. What a great, great dude, buy some stuff from that guy!
