So I actually posted this on Miata.net but I'm not getting much action over there. i figured I'd post here and ask if anybody has experience with either of these exhausts or if they had any other suggestions for me. Thanks!


Hey all,

Did a crap-ton of searching around and there are no threads comparing these two systems. I found this surprising because these two systems seem to be some of the most popular for the NB. Anyways, I just wanted some different opinions on both.

My car is a '99, bone stock. Even the intake is OEM. I plan on eventually adding an RB header, but for now I just want to be able to hear the car. I dont need "straight pipe" loud, but I do love being able to hear the engine brap with heel-toe rev-matches. I have an M3 with a killer exhaust setup and I honestly feel its one of the things that makes the car so fun to drive.

So, loud setup, but not crazy. I hear both of these systems are louder than OEM, but not obnoxiously so. Now the question is, which of these two systems is preferable, and why. I know that these things can be highly subjective, I dont mind. I just want opinions based on experiences.

Here is how the comparison breaks down:

Stock muffler weighs around 25lbs(?). The Roastersport 3 weighs in at 18lbs (save 7lbs). The Enthuza weighs just 12lbs (save 13lbs).

The Roadstersport can be bought and shipped to me for $340. The Enthuza has a steeper shipping price and ends up being $370.

The Roadstersport comes with a removable baffle so you can change the loudness, although honestly I would probably just run it as loud as it goes 24/7 so that "feature" is rather useless to me.

Anybody heard both of these compared? Obviously, I would like to mitigate drone as much as possible.

I've driven an NA with a Roadstersport and wished I was wearing earplugs while doing so. Way too loud for my liking, gerroffmylawn.

I like a nice exhaust note, but I don't need the trumpets of Jericho under my car.

I really liked the FM "naturally aspirated" exhaust on my NA, made the car audible without waking up everybody in a three mile radius.

I just bought a magnaflow system for my NB. It attaches to the stock pipe just behind the cat.

For my 2000, I just added an 01+ factory tubular exhaust manifold, it wakes up midrange a little bit - no change in sound, but at $165, cheaper than the cool header that I'd rather have...

Tail pipe on mine, the kid I got the car from had cut the muffler off just behind the axle and ran a straight pipe to the back of the car, initially I thought it was cool, but after a week driving the car, way loud. (9-10 on the sound scale in the link)

I wanted a little noise, so I got a $20 or $25 2-1/4 ID glass pack from Summit, some 2-1/4 OD mandrel bends from our local Don's Hot Rod Shop and threw that on there. With a resonator tip it wasn't bad, but after a couple months, still too loud. (7.5 - 8ish on the sound scale in the link)

I'm now on a 2-1/4 Thrush Turbo Muffler, and it's perfect. Quiet at low throttle openings, and just loud enough at WOT. (5ish on the sound scale in the link at part throttle, not much louder than a stock exhaust, and maybe 6.5 or a weensie more at WOT). Perfect for me.

I think the FM cat-back is a bit too expensive for me. All priced out and ready to ship comes to more than $400.

I read a bunch of reviews on the RacingBeat PowerPulse cat-back. Sounds like its very quiet, maybe a touch above what stock sounds like. I think I want more noise than this system will give.

@OldGray320i Buying a separate muffler and having something fabbed up is always an option, but I dont weld, and to have a shop do it would probably end up with me spending around $400 anyways. Might as well buy a road/time-proven cat-back.

That Yonaka seems tempting. I'll have to do some research...

I'm pretty happy with the RB PowerPulse muffler I've got on the Mazda 2, but it's my daily and I didn't want an annoyingly loud exhaust.

I think the RB's tone is perfect for daily driving. It's a touch louder at idle, but makes nice noises when you romp on it. Much louder than stock, but not excessive. I've received several compliments and I know I've sold at least two at this point.

Hahaha, maybe I'll take a diverging path here then, and we can compare exhaust sound clips.

BTW I dont think my Garagestar door bushings have even shipped yet :(

Bummer about the bushings, when I ordered them I got an email saying they would be delayed but then they showed up in 2 days anyway. Maybe they're still waiting on material.

I haven't had a chance to put them on yet, so you can still be the guinea pig haha

UPDATE: So I found a place that sells Enthuza exhaust systems and it turns out you get free shipping on the NB speeder setup. Oddly enough, when I priced out the NB Budget system on the same site, shipping was 35 bucks. So by ordering through this site, I am getting the same system off the Enthuza site that would have been $370 for only $320. Not bad! Now its a waiting game (assuming this website is legit anyways :P)

Depends on what you're doing and what material you need. For cheapo aluminized tubing you'd probably be out less than $200, and that assumes an expensive muffler.

If you live where it rusts and stainless is a requirement (can we say I love Arizona? It's a dry heat. No, seriously...), then probably not worth the time for you to consider when you factor in a new exhaust system every hear (ok, so a slight exageration, but of late I'm learning that rust is a very nasty creature).

Ah true, I bet the aluminized stuff is super cheap. But I am in Utah, and our winters tend to be pretty wet and very salty. I wish they would formulate some other substance to use on the roads that isnt so harsh on cars!

Never heard a miata exhaust that sounds better than racing beat, quiet at idle but if you get on it its got some sound to it but not too loud at all. Some would like louder but I feel it's perfectly subtle. you would like it

I had a Racing Beat cat back on my 1.6 Miata. Surprisingly quiet even with a header and no cats/resonators through the rest of the system.

But it's HEAVY.
