I guess I should have mentioned that the requirements need to be fulfilled on the standard GRM budget of two shirt buttons and a used chewing gum wrapper .
@2002maniac, what sort of money are you looking at for the 540? I've driven one before and I do like them, I used couldn't find one in the UK that (a) had a manual box and (b) didn't suffer from the dreaded Nikasil issues. I've only managed to find slushbox equipped ones that had engines which were on their last legs.
I am somewhat familiar with E34s, having had one before and and all that. And I do like the sports seats - I'm not after a highway sofa, just something that doesn't produce the droning noise levels the Cherokee does.
uh-oh, I hadn't thought that far ahead
You can see a few pictures of it under my profile. I would want $3,500 for it (PM me if you want my anal retentive list of piddly things that need fixing). I would be willing to deliver it as long as you could drop me off at Reno international.
Heh. Dangle the bait and be surprised when the fish sniff it?
PM's going to be on the way in a couple of minutes.
Some of the quietest cars I've driven:
W124... even the diesel is quiet inside.
E38 BMW
E46 BMW
Many of the 2004-up Lexuses... um, Lexi - er Lexus'
Lincoln Town Car - the 90's version, not the newer ones.
80's Cadillac D-bodies, like the Fleetwood when it was still a 307 Olds V8 and RWD
Newer FWD Northstar Caddys... but they are crap cars. 4T80E trans is junk, constant electrical and suspension failures, and just try to find one that isn't flashing some text on the dash about any of the vehicle's symptoms.
GM b-bodies are pretty quiet from new, but put a few miles on them and they start getting noisy. My 96 Impala is showing its age - wind noise, squeaks and rattles, etc.
Acter years and as many as 1000000 miles in town cars my Hyundai has been very serene surprisingly so.
How about a Cadillac DTS? My dad rented one , it was one of those cars that I really wanted to hate but it was really nice.
