I bought back the old MR2 & kept the Corbeau Forza seat.
I decided to leave the 5pt harness I bought used & is slightly muddy now for the next owner. But with this seat I'd like to put another harness in the new MR2. I've seen some kind of harness that's "street legal" and looks like less hassle, like a simple buckle in the middle? Possibly this guy?:

Being a 2 seater I know I will be drilling holes in the firewall behind me again, and using 2 eyebolts and washers, and the stock side belt mounts. Will this harness work with this seat (two top holes and two side holes)? The old 5pt I kinda threw together with a little help and trial/error.
The Schroth Rallye 4 with the ASM tech they use is the only one I'd consider using. I'm not sure if you have enough belt length in a 2 seater to make it work properly. Is there a reason to not use the stock 3 point belt on the street.
don't know about the Schroth Rallye … but keep in mind that there are only a couple of "race" harness manufacturers that have gone to the expense of getting their harnesses certified for highway use
you can get a ticket if you don't have certified restraints
and in a convertible, I'd never use a harness without a roll bar … the odds of you ever rolling it over are tiny … but if you did, the odds of you getting a broken neck are high

Probably no legitimate reason not to, just want to be a cool kid I guess. Also seems like a harness would fit better within those 4 openings, versus a stock belt going over the top of the seat. If that makes any sense, I haven't had coffee yet.

In the Manic Miata I run 5-point 3" belts with Corbeau F-whatevers (like yours, but with a hole for the sub-belt). It does have a Hard Dog dual diagonal roll bar with harness bar, and I keep them cinched pretty tightly. I removed the 3-points completely because there just isn't room for them. I've taken it through the state inspection lanes wearing the harness and never had an issue.
I run both in my car. Belts for road use harnesses for track stuff. Belts go over buckets fine.

My understanding is that Schroth does make a 4-point that is certified for on road use. I am not sure it's the one you posted, but I quick check of their website should confirm
I run both in my car mostly out of paranoia regarding visiting metric-land for autocross purposes.

Schroth does not list the MR2 as an approved vehicle for the Rally style belts. Likely as not it is because the shoulder harness cannot be safely attached to the factory belt system mounting points as required in the installation instructions.

If it's 4 point, make sure it has antisubmarining. In an impact, the momentum of your body needs to go somewhere. 5/6 point harnesses dissipate the energy nicely because you're one with the car. 3 point DOT seatbelts allow your torso to swing forward in a safe direction. 4 points, however, don't let your upper body mass move and don't have a groin strap to hold you in. The result: submarining and really really bad spinal damage.
ASM means one of the two shoulder harnesses will unweb during an impact and let your torso swing like a 3 point DOT belt. Schroth is the only company I know who has them. Other strategies could be safe.
Regarding DOT approval, it really doesn't matter in most states as long as the release mechanism is obvious. If you have to have a red button, Schroth 4 point ASM and, if you occasionally want a sub belt and have $$$, the 4-6 point Profi ASM have the option for a red button cam release.

Takata has 'Takata ASM technology' as well.
I had the Schroth Rallye 4 W/ASM before I got the full cage and liked them. I moved up to their 6 point regular harnesses with the cage & Kirkeys. I don't know if you'd have enough room to properly set up the 4 points in an MR 2.

Hm, guess I'll go with another 5pt like before, or just save my $$ and stick with stock. (And spend it on a new exhaust....it's too quiet.)
