I am going to be in dunwoody next week from Monday evening through Friday morning.im looking for stuff to do or people to hang out with in the evening (I'm doing training all day).

Any ideas on mtn bike trails that I can ride after dark (I have a light)?

Any great bars / restaurants / museums open late?

Thanks!

You'll be close enough to head to Buckhead for bars and food. Dunwoody, at least when I was there, didn't have a lot. It was more a bedroom community for commuters to ATL. But, it's been a while. Maybe things have changed. There was once an Andretti karting facility nearby IIRC.

Oh hey that's really close me (East Cobb/Marietta. Let's meet up for dinner. You can ride some nice MTB trails at the Chattahoochee River Recreation Area. Park at Cochran Shoals, Sope Creek, or the Columns Drive lot (probably the closest one for you).

Haven't been to the Vortex in Little 5 Points in many years, for the burger named The Coronary Bypass. It's a little hippy part of town, and although I've never been a stoner, very laid back place. Back in '04 or so, was the best , by far, wed. night Bike Night I've been to. Everything from Ducati to Choppers represented.

You're close to the best BBQ in town IMO, Heirloom. It's owned by a Korean family and they mix in Korean flavors with traditional US BBQ. In an old gas station, not much to look at but I've lived in Memphis and Austin and Heirloom is my favorite. The High Museum is great if you like art.

Also, there are still some pretty good spots in Buckhead but it isn't what it used to be. It has gotten a bit rough/dangerous, I wouldn't be walking around solo at night down there. If you want some nightlife head up to Roswell.  Good places to eat and a few fun bars. Twisted Taco is always lively.  Not sure how old you are but it tends to be a little older crowd, not twentysomethings.

Now I have a place to stop at next time I go through Atlanta.

Its Atlanta. That's where all the sweet hooptie Craigslist/FB deal are.

Buy a hooptie.

Some great trails about 30 min north in canton/woodstock if you can get that far.

Go to the battery for antico pizza. I've been going there forever, it recently got recognized on the Michelin bib gourmand list. Also there's the ASW Distillery tasting room there and plenty of other stuff.

drive to Marietta and eat KFC inside of a giant animatronic chicken

Welcome to town!

I think Grover is referring to Blankets Creek, one of the larger and well maintained MTB trail systems in the metro area.  The problem is that you likely won't have much daylight to travel here then ride if your training extends much into the afternoon, and the trails are more technical then I would ever recommend for night riding.

The Sope Creek trails that maschinenbau mentioned are still good, and much closer to Dunwoody, but traffic to get from your area the trailheads is often a mess at rush hour.

The city of Dunwoody has a trail system including routes along the Chattahoochee River but I've never ridden them to know which are worth your time.

Blankets Creek/Rope Mill network is great but the drive from Dunwoody will be probably close to an hour. Sope Creek is 90% as good IMO, but it's part of the national recreation area and closes at dark. I think it's just as technical as most of Blankets/Rope.  They actually do have rangers that patrol from time to time.

I think I will try to get to sopes creek early enough on Monday to ride before dark.  Then I can hit up another trail Friday on my way out.

That way I can ride during daylight and not worry too much about learning new trails at night!

Thanks for the advice!

If you do wind up out at night, Blankets Creek will have people out riding.  It tends to be far more desirable than the other trails around (but also up north in ATL miles, which are long and full of insanity, but not that far).

Side note:  Because of stacked-loop setups, none of the actual trails in each park are that long (most are 2-4 miles), so it's nearly impossible to get lost.  Blankets and Rope Mill have amazing maintenance, too, so the tech that kills in the dark is not really there . . .

Side side note:  Dunwoody is also basically Sandy Springs, which has all of the restaurants you could imagine, with far fewer muggings than ATL proper.

You got so lucky with weather!
