Checking out a car (jp Rubicon) on Carmax.com. What does "Prior Use: Fleet" and why should I run away? I didn't know that any fleets or rental companies had Rubicons.
Thoughts?

I can't imagine renting a 4x4 next to an ORV area either but apparently it happens.
"Fleet" could also mean a utility company or something. Probably better maintained but much more abuse.
Could it be that it was a lease car? This might be naive but over in Europe a lot of the rental agencies do long term leases as well, as do the manufacturers.
I'm just amazed at the number of people that show their face and the licence plate as they abuse a rental car. I mean do they really think it's a great idea to put that on the interwebs?
I currently drive an ex daily rental and I now have over 250k on it with no issues. I took my time to really check it over before I bought it. I even brought it home and put it up on axle stands so that I could check the under carriage. Of course it's just a regular fwd appliance I'd be a bit more leary of a 4x4.
Fleet also could mean a company car managed by a fleet company such as PHP or GECAL. A lot of large companys use them to run their fleets of company vehicles for managers, on the road sales etc
A car with a questionable backround when you buy it will still be a car with a questionable backround when you sell it. Are there any other similar choices?
How old is the Jeep and how many miles?
If it is about one year old with about 20k miles it is surely a rental.
If it is one year or less and has very low miles it is likely a previously wrecked rental car.
If it is a few years old it may be a lease vehicle.
I have hammered rental jeeps in Moab before and it's a lot of fun. In my opinion, many Jeeps are hammered off road by their owners any way. Rentals get hammered harder, but the vehicles are fairly well built to take the punishment.
My concerns with a Rubicon would be whether or not the axle tubes have been bent from jumping. Other than that it should mostly be wear and tear similar to other Jeeps, just accelerated. Engines are cheap, stock suspension bits are probably close to free with so many people going to lifts. The Rubicon has unique axles, transmission and t-case so I'd try to make sure those pieces are all still in good condition.
In the near future you may start to see more yellow vans.
DHL has decided to decomission their fleet of delivery vehicles, and are in the process of auctioning them off, once the graphics are removed.
I already bought one.. cheep.

I see no suprises.
Leased by the first owner for 28 months and 10.9k miles.
Following owner had it for 20 months and put 14k miles on it.
No owner seems to keep it long very long but I bet in DC/VA traffic it does not make the dream commuter vehicle.
