Anyone going to be there? I will. I am on crew duties and general spectating so I hope to get some good photos etc.

I will be there. Not sure which day though. They still run the race in the rain, right?

I plan to be a spectator on Saturday. Is this a family show? Will it be too much for a 5 year old?

This is going to be my first one I really have no clue how kid friendly it would be.

During the day Lemons races are totally family friendly, aside from some potential overheard profanity if around someone whose engine just blew up or whatnot. Realize that 95% of the people there are GRM types, and good people. On Friday and Saturday nights when the track is cold the the adult beverages flow freely, things become less kid friendly, but still tame and respectful, just more profanity and whatnot. There's no porn or knife fights or explosives, just some people who may have had a few too many and are wielding tools.

I was thinking of going down to watch, but my recent troubles with both of my Mazdas will prevent that.

I'm planning to spectate and will probably take lots of pictures and video. I've never been to one of these things and am very curious to see it in person.

to be fair, that may have also been caused by the combination of beer and (surprisingly delicious) bacon-wrapped chocolate chip cookies off the grill.

Bringing this back on subject.

I will be with Rhinoceros Racing Team. I have not actually seen the car this year in it final form but last year it was a flat black primer Honda Civic

Photo from last year:

Well off to the office and then it is time to get my stuff together for an early start tomorrow.

And the funny part is that is not our car!!!!. It was misposted on another page and since I had never seen the car I had no clue.

BTW we are 1st in class 2nd overall 7 laps down but there is so much luck involved with this really does not mean much.

There are some cool cars

A early 60't T Bird with a BMW diesel motor

And a Corvair.

I have to get on the road to the track.

That is funny. I helped out slightly with the actual rhino rocket car during an early penalty, so I am very glad to hear that things are going well. During the "Bart Simpson" penalty I gave one team member my red sharpie to write with...

I left early yesterday and will not be coming back this afternoon to watch, but good luck today!

That was me that you gave it to.

AND

WE GOT NICKELS LOTS OF NICKLES.

We actually won the thing. It was a great race I have many stories to tell. The on track stuff was great . And since we were parked across from the penalty area we got to see all that fun as well.

Thanks to GRM for the new T shirt. After being in my fire suite I was so so happy to have a clean new shirt for the drive home. Ohya and the bumper stickers were nice!!! Anyway

A huge thanks to all those that were there and made this happen. I would especially lie to thank the guys in the 528. They were a class act!!!

The stories are far and wide. The old saab, The corvare, the BMW powered Diesel 64? T bird. The 300zx with a Saab turbo motor. The Fiat.. . . It actually finished the race. There is so much more. I know completely understand why people do this. I mean How do you actually explain to some one that we are going to put 80+ "$500" cars in a fish bowl and let them actually race. But it works and it works VERY well.

Hey that my freind Mike's team #528. Howed they do?

We never made it down. Friday night we had a partal rain out at the dirt track in Winchendon, but we had 4 SLINGSHOOT teams drive up from PA, NY and NJ. so i spent a few hours driving the big truck around to drag it in to a track again. WOW those little cars fly. Sat we ran around getting part to fix my dwarf, mowed the lawn ect then ventured up to Jolly Rodgers to watch the flat track bikes and the slingshoots again.

The 528 team ended up 2nd. They had us by 7 laps at the start of day 2.

We had three plans going in to day 2.

  1. Actually win the thing meaning only three stops (driver changes) the car could go 3 hours on fuel but drivers are baked after about 2 hours. We gave the drivers a "window" to pit in. The drivers were to come in no earlier that a fixed amount of time and then only under caution. Driver's choice once the minimum time was met. At the same time we would have spotters in the stands and our fuelers and driver assistance people suited up ready in the fueling area ready to go at the beginning of the "pit window". We really thought that the only chance we had to catch the 528 was to get them with supper fast pit stops as we seemed to be pretty evenly matched on the track.

  2. If we got penalized or for some reason black flagged and dropped out of contention we were going to have everyone drive and make a party of it not caring where we finish.

  3. Since the 528 team had a for sale sign in there pits for there cars (for $1000) we were going to just purchased there car and take it off the track.. . . And then pay them in Nickles .

Option #1 ended up playing out. We finally caught them with about an hour to go. I actually was wondering if something broke on the 528 with about 45 min to go as they seemed to slow down allot. I was wondering if there tires were giving up or maybe the motor was laying over.

The other really cool thing was that we ended up pitting at about the same time as the 528 so the pit crews ended seeing each others work. I think we were both actually running the same strategy in terms of pitting fueling and driver changes.

Another thing I really likes was lining the top ten cars up with about 20 mints to go. I meant that we all could get to know one another. A kind of a meet and greet before we all went "racing". This was great!!! It meant we all were aware of who was who. I am not sure that the drives gave each other any more room but at least you knew who was who.

I could go on but writing it down just does not do justice to actually living it. This truly is an event that you have to go to and participate in to understand.

Again a huge thanks to the organizers of the 24 of the Lemons and to GRM for covering there 6 as a title sponsor!!!

dean1484,

Congrats to you and the entire Rhino Rocket team!

My son and I were there for a few hours on Saturday. I was amazed at the display of automotive awesomeness.

What was under the hood of the maroon Mark IV Supra with the lime green roof? That thing sounded mean and was FAST. Even better sounding was the flat black Milano.

Thanks!!!! To quote some one here on GRM "craptacular" I think sums it up best.

The most awesome display of crappy cars money can buy.

Ohya; there was no car crushed Sunday morning. It was like a huge group hug or something happened. It was announced that the winning vote was to crush no one so it did not happen. Weird. Has this ever happened at other Lemons events?
