I stumbled upon the existence of the Lemons Rallys on another forum. Seems to be not a totally dedicated to bangers so maybe something to do with the hot rods we build.
Any anecdotal stories?

I participated in one of the first ones. They have changed since then I'm sure. It was fun, and I have considered doing another, but it hasn't worked with my schedule. I was almost arrested at one of the first stops, and was told they no longer use government buildings as points of interest as a result. I cannot verify if this is true until I participate in another.
We have done a few.
Moscow 2019
Texas 2019
New England 2020
Rust Belt 2021
Alaska 2023
They are absolutely a blast and highly recommended. The first 3 we did in our 82 E100. Rust Belt was done in a Mustang 2. Alaska was a fly and drive we did in a late model Ram 1500 rental truck. We penciled in Rust Belt this summer. Car TBD.
You really can do it in whatever car you want. Obviously showing up in a French 3 cylinder diesel built in 1897 will help with points, but they really like to see enthusiastic social media posts and theme. Go for fun, not trophies.
We have met some great people on these rallies. Be social and make friends!
If I didn't have to worry about things like "job" and "house" we would do every rally every year.
I absolutely love the rallies but it is tough to get away during the school year with two kids and a teacher in my family. I have done two retreat from moscows and the Virginia rally this spring.
The rallies boil down to three 14 hour days of back roads driving. You end up running in a group of cars going a similar speed down the road.
I wouldn't worry about the car too much. If you want more points in something reliable, you could take an e28 524td or a Fiat 500 gucci edition. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a car with sealed beams.
On the stories side, at our first Moscow rally, my wife and I dressed as dinosaurs. We hit a checkpoint after dark which was a black painting high on a rock face next to a highway. We spent 10 minutes walking around with a high powered flashlight before the police arrived. The officer asked us if we were going to a dinosaur convention and politely asked us to leave.
