Like most of you, I spend a lot of time on CL doing random searches. I should probably find better things to do with my time, but that's for me and my therapist to discuss.

I've noticed a real change in search results in the last year. Many have commented here how when you do a price search, you get all this BS that's much higher priced than you want. You also get all the $1 BS too. Well lets fix that.

From now on when we are surfing CL and see an ad that exceeds our upper search price, we need to flag these. We need to flag cars with $1 prices. We really should start flagging any ad that does not include an asking price in the title. If you don't know how much you want for something, how are we?

I just spent some time on my last search doing just that.

Now back to CL !

My workaround is the search for a min price of about $400 and the max I am looking for. That weeds out the $1 ads and most of the dealers posting the monthly payments. Unfortunately it doesn't work for the dealers posting their down payments.

I set my minimum for searches at 44. Many people will put just 12 if they are selling a $12k car. I am never searching for cars that would be $44k.

i sometimes go on a tear of flagging all the rimz for sale in cars and trucks when i do a search, now i just overlook it - would be nice if people played by the rules tho'.

How about cleaning up eBay. I hate when I am looking for something and the search brings up 300 identical auctions.

We need to create a Craigslist Army. We'd go around and right wrongs. First by punching the nads of $1 ad posters. The word would spread and it would cease, lest thy nuts be smacked.

How about forming a committee / group that will randomly pick craigslist sighs around the country and in over the course of 24 hours the members Weill continuous "audit" the car section. Hit them in mass swamping the system and forcing the craigslist people to change / fix / make the dealers and others make proper listings. This may get there attention. You could get hundreds or even thousands involved. Make a website dedicated to cleaning up craigslist and at the same site you could have the add of the week, The best and worst adds etc.

ugh.... 318ti used to bring up 9 pages at most.. now because of all the people selling HID, HIDs, HIDz.. it has swelled to close to 100 pages.

I automatically put a -Lamp, -HID, in any search

+1

I was looking for a used steering wheel yesterday.... there are 100 pages od the same wheel, at the same price, sold by the same guy. Oddly, there are also zero private sellers selling something that matches "steering wheel momo". Really?

I guess the days of the $50 leather wrapped Volvo-Momo wheel are gone.

RE clean up craigslist. YES! TODAY, flag the top 5 or 10 or 100 posts on craigslist that you find in a search of "autolahome" - if you want to. THANKS! (and if it seems good to you, pass it on and on and on.... it will eliminate over 7000 automatic postings if enough people help)
If you don't thing this is a good idea, let me know why(I can't imagine it). p.s. autolahome makes over 100,000 per day spamming so they might get mad.

You may as well try to clean up the whole friggin' internet. Craigslist, for all it's virtues is very set in their ways.

Not so much for the car stuff but there is a hidden group in the discussion forums that is a place for anyone to post ads that contain animals for sale and all the members of that forum go and flag the ad.

This is why CL stays relatively free of animal for sale postings, there is a virtual army out there flagging them.

Weird...my girlfriend peruses CL for horses and such frequently. [she probably wouldn't if I weren't sitting right beside her compulsively shopping for good deals on cars, motorcycles, parts, etc...but that's another issue ]

Oddly enough "livestock" seems to get less attention than pets. But it may also be dependent on area of the country. If someone doesnt report it to "the group" it doesnt get flagged.

Somebody needs to do something about the douchebag dealers that clog up Craigslist. Yeah I'm looking for a 911 but maybe you're ad for the '87 Sentra will sway my decision.
