fyi, afternoon results have been updated to "fix the glitch"

edit
looks like Tom as 0.5sec slower than Andy, which dropped him 5spots as some people "learned" from the morning.

Yeah, I'm beyond elated to be .5 second off Andy's cumulative three laps at a track he knows well and I'd never been to. Full credit to the horrible folding bicycle and Andy's tips once I'd ridden a few laps--already scheming the perfect One Lap bicycle build for next year.

One Lap's classing structure is a bit interesting. Both of our cars in base form are available for less than $50,000, so we're both in mid-price sedan. (Base form meaning a V6 Charger in the Hellcat's case).

How and why is a hellcat redeye in the same group as vw golfs?

I mean, it's a Charger Redeye... so, thus "Sedan"?  I mean, it does technically exceed the nominal price cap of $50k... but, 1) it's just a Charger with a big engine.  2) the rules are kinda of like the Pirate Code:  'they're really more like guidelines'

and, at the end of the day, it's Brock's event... and he'll class cars where he thinks they should be (there's a note to that effect at the bottom of the classing structure).

I'm kinda more curious of "what about a Mk7 Golf makes it a sedan?", when the Mk7's and earlier are classed in SGT-2 SB.

In reply to sleepyhead the buffalo :

VW calls it a sedan, and it has four doors. It's also not a Sports/GT car, so it doesn't have a great home. Based on past results we figured this would be a softer class, but looking at results we would be second in SGT-2. Oh well, live and learn.

Dinner time! Long transits mean fast food in the car. We chose Subway today.

One of the cool OLOA traditions is to text pics of each other's cars from the road.

Thanks Ian Stewart!

118 in a 75 actually sounds like Classic Ian Stewart but that's not his car. He must have only beed doing about 112 and they let him slide.

He seems to have mellowed.  We followed Ian for a bit tonight...10 over.

Ballered up today to stay dry.  Also swapped tires F/R to get some fresh tread depth where it counts most.  Pressuring up a couple pounds since we won't gain as much on track.

Rain Master Tom is in the house this am.

I borrowed a bicycle from the HART team (thanks!) and did four laps of NCM on it this morning. I've never been here before, but it looks like fun. We'll see how it goes!

The classing structure seems to be really loose and the modifications are wide open.  Year I did it someone VR6 swapped a diesel VW Beetle, yet they were still able to run in the alternative fuel category.  Since the car was a diesel to begin with, Brock didn't seem to care that it was now powered by a regular gasoline engine, which I found very strange....

Live and learn...

Swapping the deeper tread to the front was a mistake, as the car was diabolical even in the straights.  Hydroplaning just in the rear will get your attention real quick.

Full tread vs 3/32...

That was one of the sketchiest sessions I've ever done in a car--Omg, omg, omg. I still don't know the track at all, and the car was driving like there were randomly placed kick plates all over the track. Terrifying! We're making setup changes and will try again after lunch.

Edit: Checked out the in-car and wow did I slide around a lot. Will post later.

Disconnecting rear bar next...

Results are posted--36th overall and I barely beat the Sundae Cup crowd (who, granted, had a drier track). We're back out in a little bit to see if we've made the car less terrifying.

First cars are out and we face a conundrum: The track is drying fast and no more rain is forecast. Do we reconnect the rear sway bar?

And if we're betting on a dry track, do we put Andy in the car (who's won multiple TT championships at NCM) or me in the car (who's faster in the wet but doesn't know the track).

Decisions, decisions.

I'd say Andy just because that track was one of the hardest for me to learn all the little places to pickup time.

It took me like 100 laps to really understand the track and get to a decent pace.

Either way, have fun!

Dry track means dry setup: Rear sway bar connected and Andy behind the wheel. Let's go!

Andy's done and he killed it--I saw a 2:26 on the Catalyst but we're still waiting on official results. Car is packed and now we're on the road to South Bend.

I once stayed in that hotel and had both a Krystal and a White Castle in the same meal. I felt like the President of Starfleet.
