The ultra performance of a grand tourer from Aston Martin or Ferrari, but in the shape of a full-size, three-row SUV? Cadillac has you covered with the 2024 Escalade V-Series.

Powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 rated at 682 horsepower and 653 lb.-ft. of torque, the hottest version of the Escalade can hit 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds–all in …

Wow! What a machine!

does it have the $700 refrigerator?

So, the big question:

I need to cover about 250 miles this weekend. Mostly highway.

Do I take this (in the name of science, of course) or the GTI

EPA says that the Escalade V gets 13 mpg combined.

Average mpg according to the Escalade at delivery? Like 13.1.

The GTI gets like high-30s.

So, which to load up for the trip?

I mean... you're not subject to EU or California fuel prices, right?

I had it open anyway, so I figured I'd compare this against my truck and my loaner truck.

Yeah, uh, wow.

If going all the way, how about a Suburban-based Escalade XL? Or do things get ridiculous at that point?

Can you hear the blower whine or does the Cadillac-ness isolate you from the good noises?

As for taking the V or GTI...

You're gonna look 'a baller if you arrive in th Caddy.  That can be a good thing in most cases.  If you're traveling to pick up a set of wheels where you offered only a portion of the asking price, then arriving in a $150k+ vehicle is a dick move.

Otherwise, treat yourself to the opulence.  It will probably be cool but I suspect it will leave you not seeing what the excess funds really buys you.  That kind of money will buy 3 very nice cars!

I'm pretty sure I'm the target market for these after the rappers and chemical personality enhancer people get done with them... Kinda bummed they only tow 7k.

I know there's more to it than this but how is a modern GM truck with 682hp and giant brakes rated to tow like 1800lb less than my last 1500 Tahoe

First trip in the Escalade V. (Technically, first trip in this one as I have driven others.)

Destination: Publix and back because someone* said, Nah, we have plenty of paper towels at home.

Speed limit for the entire drive: 25 mph.

Conditions: sunny.

* That someone was me.

At some point we're going to hit the crossover where the real luxury move is buying a 50k SUV and hiring a live-in driver for a couple of years.

Dedicate a couple of houses in the gated community for shared chauffeurs?

And the highlight of the trip? The massaging seats? The 600-plus horsepower? Those giant forged wheels?

I ran into JG’s mom. :)

Didn’t get any boost on this trip, but plenty of snap, crackle and pop from the exhaust.

I'd be rocking this on a road trip.

A $4500+ wheel options is absurd like the pricing on the rest of the vehicle.

I got to drive one at Sebring. You can hear the supercharger whine with the windows down.

I just know I'd never get over 10mpg in such a vehicle. I wonder if they'll make a 1000hp Blackwing for $200k

Put a few more miles on the Escalade V tonight–back to the same parking lot as earlier, in fact, to pick up dinner. (Someone wanted Chinese tonight.)

We’re still working on the same reset of the trip odometer from earlier today.

Down to 7.2 mpg for the trip there.

(Sorry, no pics of dinner; the veggie egg foo young was quite good.)

But up to 7.5 mpg after the trip back. Slowing down for the older gentleman walking his Corgi must have helped nudge things in the right direction.

Why didn't you park as close to the door as possible at the Publix?

$161K! Holy cow.

In reply to RacerBoy75 :

Gotta get in those steps.

Plus the lot looked full, so I grabbed an empty end spot. I don’t think I passed many if any spots while walking up.

Normally dudes throw down "your mom" jokes but we're a respectful crowd and nobody's going there.  Good job GRM team.
