I'm doing a night Autocross Saturday. Headlights only.
The 20 year old Miata windshield isn't in good shape, especially after a bunch of miles on an open trailer.
I've got a low speed random orbit polisher.

For RainX treatments, I clean the windshield really well using Bon Ami powder. It says on the label not to use on glass. I have a friend who is a Corning Engineer who recommended it. The rinse really well and clean with rubbing alcohol. Then apply RainX. It lasts over a year.
Not too sure about polishing out the glass though. I would be hesitant to use a polisher.
I've used Baretender's Friend on windshields that were really dirty with pine sap and stuff, but I've never heard of anybody being able to polish a nicked up windshield back out.
Yeah, Barkeeper's Friend is my go-to for nasty windshields, usually followed up with either Rain-X or Aquapel. I have heard of polishing them, but I've never tried it myself. Have you tried searching Youtube?
Griots Garage has a glass cleaner/polisher. That's mostly a compound to take contamination off though (ideally after using glass clay). I'd expect you to have to using something fairly agressive to polish out nicks from the glass.
Begs the question how expensive a Miata windshield is.
I tried to polish out a windshield once. Had the correct compound & buff borrowed from a buddy who was a glass guy. Spent a week of evenings and was never happy with it. Would not do again.
IIRC a new Miata windshield is like $200.
OTOH, I used a clay bar and detailer on mine, and it worked pretty darned well. Doesn't take out scratches and nicks, but gets rid of the fur that keeps your wipers from working well.
I have used one similar to this with okayish results. It was from eastwood but looked like a terra cotta slurry. The glass looked really smooth and shiny but being a quarter window with a sharp bend in it I wasn't able to check it for optics.

Pretty sure that's only if you have comprehensive.
Walk around sales people come through the neighborhood a couple times a year trying to get windshield business. "We'll inspect it for FREE! And if there's anything wrong your insurance will have to pay for the windshield" These walk around guys make sure you have comprehensive and if not quickly walk to the next home.
Yes, I'm in Florida. Still, after posting in this public forum, I don't think I'm going to have any "accidental" windshield damage.
The board of veterinary medicine gets real interested if you have any sort of ethical allegations.
How much does a windshield cost.
I usually get them replace when they get too sandblasted.
Edit to say the last one was for a E150. It was less than $200.
