Hey all look at what followed me home. I finally was able to go pick up the '79 Olds I had talked about in another thread. A couple things that I noticed is I had been told there was a Buick engine in it but it seems to be an Olds (distributor in the back and oil fill up front) I'm thinking from the head code its a late Olds 350. Body is perfectly straight, hardly even any dings in it. The interior is in rough shape to say the least as far as anything with fabric is concerned though the plastics seem in decent shape just an ugly color. It was someones project they never finished so I'm thinking it may end up just becoming a donor for my '80, we will see.
What do you guys think? Oh basically got it for $100.
Oh and there was a bell housing in the back seat

Ummmmm, Olds + $100 + complete(ish), + interrior (may be tired but complete) = WIN!!!!!
why does everybody except me find deals like this?
I had a Delta 88 with a Olds 350 in it. Talk about bullet proof. I honestly believe those engines are indestructible.
Nice find. Not my cup of tea but a heckuva find. You could drive that thing till the apocalypse.
Sweet ride! All the interior need is a thorough cleaning.
Pefect candidate for 22in rims!

Looks like a perfect candidate for a no-so GN clone. Leave it stock lookin, mebbe clean the funk out of the interior, and add turboboosters.
How do you shift with that TA column in there?
Nevermind, I know. Put a manual in it.

When I first saw your post, I read that as "hardly even any drugs in it".
...which still made perfect sense.
I'm thinking 403 and a full on NASCAR treatment, and use it to terrorize stringback-glove types at track days.
how's the frame behind the axle?
If you need any parts my friend has a similar year monte carlo that the frame rusted up on, unfortunately I don't think the fabric bits are in good shape at all. (Let me know what you need and I can put you in touch with him though)

Well I havn't cleaned it out or stripped the interior yet so there may still be drugs in it
Yeah the car had been someones "project" (actually two peoples) and neither finished it obviously. I initially got this car to complete the body for my '80 as mentioned which I still may do.
I do have a 4 spd Sag sitting in my garage so with having the steering column from this car it should be going in. If the Olds motor runs it will be my temp motor as I build up the SBC sitting on my work bench ('70s block 355, Corvette TPI setup, still need the engine harness though). I also have a short stack of Quadrajet carbs laying around and an Edelbrock intake and a set of racing springs taken off my uncles stock car out there as well.
If I do decide to run this car instead of the '80 I will have to work out the title as its one of those the title was handed off to each new owner but no one put it in their name. I hate it when they do that.
Apex, do you know if your buddies Monte has any of the under hood frame bracing?

I have actually thought of this basing it off the D or DX block if I wanted to keep it all Olds.

No issues at all, solid with no rust.
Nice find. $100 is a steal.

And with a cheap LSX engine out of a truck it will make for a wonderful stealth fighter! Cheaper than rebuilding what is in there already.
I have thought of that any ideas what trucks to look into for such an engine setup and about how much would it run me? Never much got into the LS series of motors (especially truck setups). Can they run with older transmissions or would I need to get the one that came out of the trucks as well?
Oh the bell housing that was sitting in the back of the car is stamped "GM2" anyone know what combos I can use this with? I have a Sag 4spd in the shop that it looks like it will fit...
