A buddy of mine is looking at a rally car on CL.
And asked me for advice. I really do to know what to rell him. What questions do you ask when buying a used rally car. What should we look out for?

Underbody damage, crash damage, cracks or deformation around the strut towers, suspension damage around the bump stops from hard landings.
Is he planning to race it? If so, check the rules of planned sanctioning body!
Also, just look for good craftsmanship in general. Welds, all bolts present and same, not too much duct tape.
If he's planning to rally it, the logbook is the only thing you should care about- and if it's logbooked, at $2k expect to replace everything up to and including portions of the unibody. Even good looking rally cars are complete nightmares underneath after enough events, so go in with that mindset and you won't be disappointed.
From looking at the photos, it appears to be an SCCA ClubRally era car- this means that, if it's logbooked, it may be grandfathered in despite not meeting the current safety rules. If it isn't logbooked, it will almost certainly need a new cage, at which point you might as well start with a fresh shell too.
I probably would have moved the jumper cables out of the photos, but I'm a detail guy. If it's for rallycross only, I've seen worse at that price.
Looks to be a 500$ car with another 500$ in seats and a home brew cage. Can't be more than 1,500$ in parts there. The body is trashed. Obviously took a tree to the driver's door.
