...finding one maybe. Since my tastes are all over, there's so many cool (and sometimes not cool) cars out there and I'm thinking the hunt is better than the kill...
In the last few weeks I've looked at/driven:
'91 Miata (again -thanks Evan)
'95 Escort GT
'85 Jetta
'90 Prism GSI
'93 Mercury Tracer LTS
'87 Porsche 924S
'01 Focus ZX3
'85 Volvo 242
'88 MR2
'92 Honda hatch (sold out from under me)
'89 Toyota SR5 (was told it was a GTS)
Numerous CRXs -my main interest at the moment.
I know I'm forgetting some as they all seem to run together sometimes, but it sure is a good time. At least when it's not an emergency anyways.
Get a Synchro bus, break out the Bob Marley, go out to the desert, and smoke more doobies than Cheech and Chong combined!
Not really a "WHATCAR??" thread, but more of a "I'm having fun looking" thing. Maybe it's the wide open possibilites of what will be next. The cars above were just sort of a this-is-what-I've-seen-lately list. (btw, the LTS was high up on the list until I found out it was an automatic).
Start looking for MX3s, MX6s, Probes!!!
I'd love try try out a Lotus Elan of the early 90's. 914s are really amazing to me. Looks like a great list. I wish I was in the market presently. I try to pretend, but my attitude toward test drives is much like the hunter who eats what they kill, and kills only what they'll eat.

Actually Probes were left off of the list that I had looked at along with an old Mustang II V6 and an old, tired 914. (I knew there were some I'd forgotten).

Hehhehehe you said PROBE!
I wouldn't buy a Probe, Mercury Tracer or any other car FoMoCo has forgotten they made. You can't buy hardly any body/trim parts for older Fords, which may not sound like a big deal until you get hit by someone. Escort bumpers are a particularly difficult commodity to come by even used. I'd browse the local U-Pull-It junkyards to see what they have a lot of and gravitate towards those.
I agree with the body/trim parts issue. My philosophy of late has been to get something that is easy to shop for. This is why I have a fox body Mustang and a Ranger truck at this time.
That being said I stopped on the way home and looked at an XR4Ti...

Eh, why not? Same engine as the SVO/TBird, right? Though I imagine body panel would be fun trying to source.

if "quantity of donors in junkyard" is primary selection criterion, you'll end up with a Neon or an Intrepid. Or perhaps a Windstar.

Neon is THE correct answer in that case. I've thought about buying a banged up disgusting Neon for $200, then spending $300 at the local junkyard to end up with a pristine Neon.
Could EASILY be achieved in one weekend at most. I have my choices between 40-50 donors at any given time in EACH of the two self-service yards.
Of your entire list only the MR2 and Miata stand out to me. The MR2 would be my pick of the two because miatae are not as unique.
I'd put Alfa Romeo Milano (or GTV6) and a Fiat X1/9 on the list.
