Yeah, leave the fender crumpled (but tech worthy), add some FlaK damage holes, and add flames coming from the holes! And be sure to wear the hachimaki headband on your helmets. That ought to be worth some style points at a Lemons event.
Then, if you could get another team to paint their car Gloss Sea Blue and add the late-war stars and bars...

Little more body work then I want to do but it would be fun to mess with people.
My other thought was once the engine goes swap in a BMW M50 and add some M colors.

This is the best one yet, both options. Most really popular racing liveries have been played to death in Lemons (like Gulf).
The old Toyota livery is just cool and rare and would be interesting and fun.
Even without the BMW motor you could do it all up in ///M livery, some kidney grills, then wear your drivers suits with BMWCCA patches on them to judging and play the a-hole serious BMW racer as a joke. When you eventually swap the m50 in, you can keep doing it.
Do the police car/autobots.
