Depends a lot on the shape of the panel you're sticking them to. My 99 Z28 has plastic front fenders and fiberglass doors, so the rear quarters were the only place to stick my numbers/class magnets for autocross. Even in warm weather the magnets just couldn't conform to the curves and constantly flew off at AX speeds.
My numbers from Autocrossmagnets.com Have seen 100+ and still stayed on.

The magnetic roll from McMaster-Carr is awesome. I drove for something like a month with the numbers on the car.
I got magnetic sheet from McMaster-Carr and it was fine at autocross speeds, but blew off when I tried to run home and grab something I forgot. So at, say, 55-60, it cam right off the rear doors of DD#1's car. This was the heavyish stuff at about 16x20 with rounded corners.
I don't remember what the thickness of the stuff I bought is (wae posted a link to it somewhere here) but it cuts easily with a knife, the unused section of roll will fold itself flat, and I've seen... err... over 60mph sustained with the numbers on.
