Florida, right? That's near Texas, I think.
Well, it's less than one Texas away from Texas but that would still be at least 3 normal states worth of distance. I'm just glad Florida is in the direction that it only takes me 5 hours to get out of texas instead of the other direction which takes 9 hours. Come to think of it, from the East border of Texas, it's about the same distance to Gainesville as it is to the West border of Texas. Just avoid Texas.
I'm Canadian. Texas is a cute little thing
I see too many people choosing the easy 12 points. Maybe we should roll a 20-sided die for their concours score instead.

Only dilemma now is should I just give up on making my car presentable in my limited time left before the event.
I still want my car to look decent in pictures, but am not going to care about underhood detailing and such. Aiming for it to be a 20 footer.

I'm thinking I'm going to risk my 13 last year mainly because I don't want the easy way out.

THIS!!!
Or maybe 3 regular die and you take the result...3 to 18 points. How lucky do you feel. LOL

Or maybe a regular die and you take 3 times the result...3 to 18 points. How lucky do you feel. LOL
This also has a lot more reality TV drama to it. Roll a normal die three times. We can cut to commercial between the second and third rolls.
In reply to Keith Tanner:
I changed it...juse roll 3 dice once...take total. After all challenge is a crapshoot.
This sounds like a fun option. Before you poo poo the idea, the top 8 cars in 2016 scored above 18 points in concours AND were top 8 in combined dynamic times.
New goal, find judges and feel them out before the judging starts to take place.

Pretty much this. I'm well aware that this is an event put on for a magazine and I personally love reading the Challenge issue and looking at the pictures, so whatever I bring will hopefully either look nice or be very, very interesting.

The stats geek in me says that's a worse chance than 12 points. Highest likelihood is a 10 or 11, with a 62.5% chance of rolling lower than 12 points.

I totally misread that but for a moment I commended you for your willingness to go the extra mile.

LOL....all about luck. Let's face it...80 % of us are field fillers just having a good time.

It could still be fun- give all of the competitors who take this option a set of GRM fuzzy dice to adorn their car!
And use this to make the rolls: Yardzee Giant Dice

Exactly! It's a real gamble and the house has the advantage. Sure, it messes with the competition. But if you're going to offer an easy way out, it should come at a cost.
In reply to Keith Tanner:
Seriously...I could see the roll the dice option as a fun part of the challenge festivities if it was done cerimonously at the start of the concours judging.

I wasn't sure if I should commend him or not!

So, it's like a Concours with a happy ending??
I think I liked the old rules much better.
In reply to SVreX:
I think offering that kind of service would lower my score.

If it's any consolation I did top 20 (barely) last year....with only 10 concours points and a 16 second quarter mile.
With that being said, you'd be a fool to not enter judging in concourse with all your work and attention to detail. The only way you won't easily be a top 20 car is if it hand grenades on your first AX run.

Dang it! You all need to quit talking about the challenge. You're going to send me into a fit of envy or depression or both.
The best I'll probably be able to afford this year is a virtual entry. . . . I'll send my build book and a video of my best local autocross run and a time slip from a 1/4 mile run @ Texas Motorplex.
