A little off topic, I've heard its pretty busy there, these days. When I was there in 03, and 04, you could get in as many runs as you, or your equipment could handle. I hear its not like that anymore. I might be building a small bore LS bike in the next year, or so.
don't know what's in Maxton this weekend but I'll be in Rockingham for open track day Sat and crew duty on Sun
Maxton was hot during the day. PACC Racing (Paula, Andrew, Cameron, Calvin) aka the Nelson family kicked major ass. Ran the same car in five classes, broke five class records. Minimum record breakage was 7mph. Runs ranged from 161.xxx to 168.xxx mph, which is hustling pretty good for a standing-start mile.
There were a couple of guys on bikes that went over 200 mph. sick.
problemaddict has videos, but he's got a much longer drive home than i had. i'm sure he'll post links tomorrow.

They're running in Maine in August, a standing-start 1.5 mile course. With a taller diff to take advantage of the longer course, Andy says they should go upper 170's.
I think they're going to run Maxton again in September or October but am not sure, will let Andy respond to that. If it's a weekend i'm in the carolinas, i'll be there.
I got an email from Andy Saturday night/Monday morning. He told me the MPH, which was bad ass, but he didn't mention how badly they destroyed the records! CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!
Run 1 C/CBGC 164.1775 (17.505 over)
Run 2 C/CGC 164.4647 (9.025 over) 81 % air density
Run 3 B/CBGC 161.5749 (6.003 over) strong head wind
Run 4 B/CBGALT 166.60699 (7.349 over) Spun 4th gear at 5/8 - 3/4 mile marks - 89% air density
Run 5 C/CGALT 168.20264 (15.723 over our 4/09 record) - 88%
Run 6 C/CBGALT 167.0328 (15.237 over our 4/09 record) - 92% w/o pan
Dad really appreciated Pat and Mike's help.
We have a lot of work to do to get ready for Loring Maine on August 1 and 2. Any GRM folks in Maine who would like to join us just send a PM.

I changed four spark plugs and pushed the car a few times. Oh, and I gave Andy my clean socks so he could wipe the sweat from his forehead. So I'm not really expecting a team jacket or anything, lol.
I was an ugly umbrella girl
The team teched in on Friday made 3 runs each day on Sat and Sun and was packed up by 3pm each day. I think they run 'til 6pm on Sat and 3pm on Sun. I bet Andy could have made 2 more passes on Sat and one more on Sun if he really wanted to push it.
Still have to unload the camera. I have many pix and several videos as does CAM777.
I am totally sure that trip would have beaten the overtime I worked this last weekend - hands-down! One of these days I'll get a clue.
In that video - the car sounded like a symphony! Totally beautiful! And the chute in full bloom! Awesome!
Andy and I spoke yesterday - he is so stoked about his successes - takes nothing for granted and is truely grateful for all those who have helped.
His work buddies call him "Professor" - I was thinking that is the BEST name for Andy! Waddayathink?
Professor777?
When are we gonna start an Andy Fan club? Call it Club Professor - with stickers and a membership card with membership that goes toward helping Andy reach his goals. I'm in!
Here's the beginning of a run, the 167mph pass:

I've sent some raw videos to the Nelson boys who will be splicing these videos together to get a complete pass....
Loved the Video, Thanks.
I'm a bigger Studebaker fan now than I ever was before.
Hey Andy, about that "paint" job. How about sticking to several shades of ruddy brown primer. The gray primer is a little trailer trashy.
:)
Nothing sounds like a healthy V8 at max RPM forever. Except maybe a 6-engine pulling tractor pulling a 30,000 pound sled.
hey andy, aug issue of hotrod magzine page70 is your picture of your hawk. i was just reading the issue tonight over dinner at the cruise night and seen it. then this tread is one here. nice ride..... what no beetle for a top end run? or did it get taken apart for somthing else this year for oct?

I thought complaints about our "paint" styling was reserved for Guidipie.
Hey Jason, the Bug is 1/4 only....no top speed stuff for that one.
ahhh, thanks for that update. the hawk does sounds cool when you are running it.
i have to agree, it needs some type of paint though...turn brown works...or flat black......or just to tease everyone one the board......mary kay pink....
Wheels...I happened to catch "Supercars Exposed" on SPEED tonight (it's on right now) and one of the segments focused on the Texas Mile. During the various car shots, I saw at least two Studebakers there. If you get SPEED, look to see if the episode will be repeated.
BTW, the engine note of your car in the video is fantastic! I'm guessing it is a SBC. Does it also have your handmade, work of art, headers? Any engine pics to share?
You'll need to log in to post.
