From looking at the Mazda 2 that ran at the 13hrs of VIR, you should be able to build one for under $20k if you're real frugal.

Now, that is seriously cool. Looks like that M2 would make a great base for a MazdaSpeed2.
So why is this series limited to manufacturers? Why can't an individual petition the SCCA for homologation and build one and campaign it themselves.
Anyone want to start a team racing a Versa, an Accent or an Aveo? Why not pick up a used Aveo and run the series for pennies on the dollar. If anyone is up for it, lets get started, the season isn't too far off!
We could bring back the 60's and 70's era of trailering across the country on the back of a 20 year old van, or better yet, drive the car TO the track!
BTW, I am serious about this. If someone here want's to start a cheap race team with me, I can start working on gaining sponsorship!

Ummm, such a series already exists; Improved Touring has been around quite a for awhile.

Yeah, but Mazda and Honda are throwing money at this series...Therefore, it is where the money will be. Can you make money at IT racing? Doubtful.

Sounds to me like they just want to be able to sell some performance parts. There is all ready a class for them to run in, it's called Showroom Stock C. Problem is the SCCA no longer allows "trunk kits" on SS cars like the did 10 years ago, so I'd guess the manufacturers are trying to make their own class.

None on the list is classified for showroom stock c. C is more for the Mazda 3 and Honda Civic. The 2 and Fiesta really don't have a "stock like" class right now.

That, and I think an "agreement" will make sure the cars are equal-ish so that anyone can race. IMHO, manufacturers' homologation/sepcs will go a long way in establishing the series.
Cool concept by Honda and Mazda. It would be good of more manufacturers would jump on board but no other companies back amateur motorsport like Honda (HPD) and Mazda (Mazdaspeed) do. I'm sure as the class continues they will look at more eligible cars after all a Mazda rep did say they did this for more manufacturer competition. Honda was probably just a good base to conglomerate with, hopefully they'll expand. Yeah they're running in SSC. I'm glad SCCA didn't make a new class, I'm sure they're mouth was watering just at the chance of one. With modern technology, it seems like these cars could be more comparable to IT times. If they are they look to be more of ITB cars. Hopefully SCCA choses to do keep them in an already designated class and the realize that just b/c there is different prep done to the cars, they can till run similar lap times.

I would love to see the base MINI Cooper (non-supercharged) compete in B-Spec, I believe they do have contingency money as well. I would expect Kia to want some of this action. Indeed--Chevy needs to step up with this in order to give the Sonic some cred.
Hey GRM--we need another feature on the other B-spec cars now. The Mazda and Fit reviews were cool, but I'm really curious about the 500.
