I'm questioning if it would be worth the trouble to attempt a transmission swap in our Mazda3. Our car is a low mileage (30K) 2007 Mazda3 hatchback with automatic transmission that we have owned since new and there is nothing wrong with it other than I wish we purchased a manual from the onset. The answer on the Mazda3 forums is to sell this ATX car and buy another MTX car however, I'm struggling with trading our well cared for car for another with questionable history.

Even going back to the 90's, cars generally had different wiring harnesses for manual/auto.

I've done it in an OBD-1 shell before and instantly hated life. That said, I recommend the same as mazda3 forums.

I don't have experience with it, but given the common nature of the 3, I'd say the easiest way to swap is:

Sell auto trans car
Buy manual trans car

Enjoy 3 pedal driving. I think the advice the Mazda3 forum gave you is spot on. May take some searching but I'm sure you can find a manual with a documented service history.

Yeah, that's not a swap I'd attempt. I've been involved in an NA/DISI swap, and both cars were manual. It would be a NIGHTMARE to swap Otto for Manuel.

Funny,if you asked whether you should swap a LS motor into the car you probably would have gotten thumbs up from everyone.
