Locally here I found a pretty decent deal on a 1994 Cougar XR7. First year for the 4.6, first year for the 4r70w. Now, my question is what kindof potential do these things have? I know they don't share much with the Panther cars, and they do have IRS, but its a boat of a car and they aren't known for their nimble handling.
Is it worth anything more than a Grandma car? I know they say typically stay away from first year model cars, but this one has some pretty low miles.
I've never found much for the MN12 chassis cars, except for AOD parts from SuperCoupe.
Their biggest fault is weight followed by the oddball 5x4.25 wheel bolt pattern.

What do you expect it to do?
I like them. My mother raised me in an early nineties Cougar. Now I want one for some reason.
Well, I'm looking for any potential, from bolt ons, to maybe some drag racing, or maybe even an AutoX. Basicly, do they have ANY potential?

I have a 94 Supercoupe 5-speed and a 95 Thunderbird LX 4.6 auto. You can make these cars a lot of fun, but they'll always be victims of their size--think of them as GT cars and not sports cars. Start at supercoupeperformance.com, sccoa.com and tccoa.com. My SC is set up for SM autocross classification but runs 12.46@110 in the quarter. I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have. I've done much of the stuff you might want to do to that car.
Oh, and it's MN12, not MC12, and the car shares no suspension parts with the Panther platform. Totally different cars.
Handling and brake upgrades are easy to find and perform, but your biggest problem is that 94-spec 4.6. It's a turd, to put it politely. Swap in an aluminum block PI 4.6 from an Explorer. Seriously, don't waste time with bolt-ons for that engine.
THIS is what I thought this thread was going to be about:
Supercoupes are haunting me as well. The E34 530i is "supposed" to be my big car fix, but gosh MN12 Thunderbirds are have been popping up for the cheap . . .
I don't know if it's your thing, but a 4.6L T-Bird/Cougar could make the basis for a pretty cool drift car. The T-Bird I used to drive was super easy to catch and very progressive.

Me too. I was wondering what sort of grassroots project would start with a 600,000 dollar supercar.
