That's right, Jay Bullington of JXB performance has purchased one and you can rent it for a test, autocross or even a track day. It's not cheap but what do you expect for a million dollar car that can destroy a Formula 1 car on most tracks. Link to website
If that track day gives you your own run group.
For that matter, I wouldn't want to work the autocross course if it was running either.

Huh.
I thought they were still on the prototype phase and not yet ready for sale. That should get some coverage.

It will be 18 months before it arrives, it's being built for him. I wish I was in the right income bracket to rent it for Nationals. I've won 3 Solo Tours but still don't have a jacket. Anyways, I think the car is amazing and being allowed to actually take it to the limit is just crazy.
Hmm...the FIRM is listed as an available location...
Maybe if we all chip in a dollar
$50k is plenty enough to build a C7-based Cheaparral 2.0

I agree but I'm someone capable of building something crazy if I had the money, the people who will rent it at the top level have the money but not the time or skills to build something close to that
$29,999 for the Diamond package, 8 hours and "choose your path". I don't suppose that includes street use.

Drivethrough!
With a helper following you in another car to actually grab the food from the window - from what I've seen it isn't exactly easy to get in and out :D
Hey, I know that guy. Bought an Explorer 2bolt subframe and diff from him a few months ago for a song...
Can JG run this around the Firm, I want to see the graphs.

You and me both :)
We can't cover the rental cost for a proper test—although given the cost and scope of the car I think Jay's fees are entirely reasonable—but I've been running those FIRM laps in my head ever since I saw the thing go up the hill at Goodwood. We know of cars that have gone well below 1:10 there, even down in the 1:05-1:06 range. I think this thing has to be good for at least a <1:06-1:08 just based on power/weight/contact patch/passive aero before you start even introducing a lot of suck. Turn on the fans and you're going to knock a few more seconds off.
Really the big challenge for it at the FIRM would be that you can't use ANY curbs, and there's a few curbs that really cut some distance the more you can eat them up. So in the Speirling you'd be driving a longer course and turning some straight areas into transitions, but I think it would be worth the tradeoff.
Hmm, what's the purse for the UTCC again?
In reply to JG Pasterjak :
You should email them and ask to do an article on it and add it to your track times list. The worst they could say would be no.
In reply to JG Pasterjak :
Do you think that it would be possible with any vehicle available today (including the Spierling) to run a sub-1:00 at FIRM?

The faster you go, the more precious and difficult those gains become.
That said, I think if anything currently configured had a good shot, the Speirling would be toward the top of the list. If you look at ultra-fast stuff like F1 or Indy cars or GTP cars, they're HUGE. That's going to hurt you at the FIRM. The sheer narowness of the sucker car will be a huge asset alone, especially since it can't use much if any curb. The FIRM is also big on point-and-shoot type stuff, so, again, an AWD EV that can pull from any speed is well-suited.
I think an SAE car would also be a good tool for the job, although they tend to run out of steam above about 90mph pretty quick since their main design parameters are for more low-speed stuff. But an SAE chassis with a 1000cc motor... okay now I'm interested.
When I get a few minutes I'm going to se if I can play around in Circuit Tools and come up with a more educated guess. The thing about the FIRM is it's relatively short, so you don't have a ton of opportunities to make up the time. But it does have a LOT of correct ingredients for a truly sick FIRM lap.
In reply to JG Pasterjak :
The Speirling is 2wd

It does accelerate like it's AWD though
Kinda cool, but still in the realm of real people can't afford it. I mean at $30k for 8 hours, that is about what I pay to get anally (I mean annually) intruded by federal taxes.
And Sir David McMurtry died today-bad timing
