If you put it together with assembly lube and shut it down when you heard the screeching, it will probably just need bearings and maybe a crank.
Yeah, lots of lube.... ran it today and could hear vague rod knock (I think) on shutdown. Figured I might as well work on a tune while I get a plan together. Got video and I'm still not sure how bad it is. I'm not going to say I'm optimistic, but it feels slightly better to bury your head in the sand. I don't think I'm doing additional damage?
Best to avoid running it until you can take it apart, to avoid taking any more chances with the crank. If it sounds normal at idle then probably only the bearings are damaged so far.
