Anyone ese see that? (maybe a repost)

Swapped a new MB Turbo Diesel into a 20 year old 190D. Much faster, much better MPG. Nice.

Copied here for those who don't follow links:

"Who says you can't teach an old diesel new tricks? Not Mercedes-Benz. Apparently, some folks from the tri-star brand were sitting around talking about how much diesel technology has advanced in the past two decades and got the crazy idea of dropping a new Benz four-cylinder turbodiesel into an old 190D.

As it turns out, the advances in diesel technology have been pretty impressive. The new OM651 four-cylinder turbodiesel, borrowed from the new C 250, cranks out 204 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, the retrofitted 190D now has nearly three times the horsepower of the original and double the torque of the most powerful Mercedes-Benz 190 ever, the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II.

Shoehorned into a twenty-year-old 190D, the new turbodiesel vastly improves the car's performance and fuel economy, not to mention emissions. The retrofitted car, dubbed the 190D BlueEFFICIENCY, now hits 62 mph in 6.2 seconds, which Mercedes-Benz says is an astounding 11.9 seconds faster than the original 190D. What's more, the BlueEFFICIENCY gets an estimated 48 mpg, substantially better than the old car's 32 mpg and even slightly better than the C 250's 46 mpg. Of course, the new C 250 is also nearly 850 lbs heavier, 6-in. longer, 3.5-in. wider and three and 0.5-in. taller than the old 190D.

For Mercedes' part, they've done some fine work. The only giveaway -- without peaking under the hood -- is a small "BlueEFFICIENCY" badge on the fender behind the front wheels. There's no word on the future of this car, as it was simply built to answer the question: "How might one make this progress (in diesel technology) directly tangible, in isolation from the equally profound changes in the safety and comfort of the car as a whole?" Well, they found a way."

I like that a lot. I'd love to do that to my 300TE.

Who says "Three and 0.5 inches"?

That just struck me as funny...

I like it, but I'd be more impressed if they did it to a 50-year-old 190D, instead of a 20-year-old one.

I was sort of hoping this was in a W123 chassis. Very, very cool, nonetheless.

Nope this one is awesome cause it dosen't have a crap engine in it.. This car is faster than my civic and gets better mileage and it wins. The other car had a crap engine in it, was slower than my civic and got less MPG...

Perkins = Crap period.

Not sure I understand, how can 200 hp be three times the car's original amount? The original 190 had 66.666 hp?

Makes sense.. Old diesel tech was horrible.

I think it fell somewhere in the 70's. The comparison is with the 190D, not the Cossie that is also mentioned.
