Came across a 2001 Mercedes C Class in pretty rough shape the other day and was amazed to see it had a 6 speed manual trans. Unfortunately it's just a V6 though. What transmission would it be and how good/bad are they? Will they fit other Mercedes engines, preferably V8s and are they strong enough if they do fit?

iammclovin804 is in the midst of Manual Mercedes projects. Check out his thread.

Generally the bellhousing/clutch/etc swap between engines in the same family. The inline engines from 1986-2006 for example all bolt to the same transmissions. The transmission in a W203 is (I think) an NSG370 which is also used in the chrysler crossfire and the Jeep TJ(final years) and JK. Decently strong transmission. The V6 version will bolt up to certain V8s but I'm not 100% which ones. I believe M113?

As far as I know they trans bolt up to every Mercedes V engine from the m113 and m112 until recent. Their being swapped behind 5.4 and 6.2's, most are living lol

I plan on using that trans to put a m272 or m113 + manual trans in my w108

Good to know, thanks. Will the flywheel off the v6 work as well? Are they dual mass?

There is a manual 2007 C class that showed up in the local PnP not that long ago if anyone is interested.

Thanks, that's cool that the flywheel would work too. Shame it's a dual mass.

Manual swapped C55 sounds like a lot of fun

Not that it helps with a Mercedes, but I put an NSG370 into my 98 Jeep Cherokee. I never pulled the flywheel as the NSG370 and the original AX15 use the same clutch, slave, throwout bearing and arm. That was single mass for that flywheel.

Edit: NSG370 pulled from a Wrangler with the regular Jeep 4.0 inline six.

The reluctor ring for the CPS is built into the flywheel, so there might be differences between years/engines. I use the LUK DMF078 for M273/M272, but it's showing DMF079 or 081 for the M112.
