Looks like the OE GKN/Lobro CVs for my old Saabs are drying up. eEuro has Metelli, which I've not heard of, and the only thing I can find on the 'net is that their boots last a year, leading me to this question:

Aside from the lousy CV boots they presumably get from China, does Metelli make good parts or E36 M3ty ones?

I don't know the answer re: Metelli, and I'm interested to hear from anyone who knows, but FWIW GKN tripods and CVs are available at FCP Euro.

Sweet, thanks -- ordered! Call me a glutton and inefficient, but I prefer to rebuild my own axles with decent stuff, you know, as punishment for failing to inspect the CV boots. frown

Still curious about Metelli.

I did mine last spring when I was working to get it roadworthy. The right side inner driver was badly cupped, and both tripod bearings came apart in my hand; oddly, the boots were totally fine, though the right inner was also completely dry, almost as if it never had grease in it.

I'm thinking of rigging up a heat shield to protect the right inner from the heat of the downpipe. It's on the list of winter projects.

I have used synthetic grease on the inners for years - seems to solve the heat problem on the right side. But a shield would be easier than pulling the axle to repack it.
