I'm just starting to replace the slave cylinder on my '99 NB and I see the hose is braided steel. Am I safe in assuming that's not an OEM hose?

Second question.....There should be no reason I can't use a brand new braided brake line to replace it, assuming the end fittings are right and the length is good?

Unless there is a problem with the clutch line I wouldn't mess with it.  Just replace the slave cylinder and roll on.

I'm trying to leave it alone, but the nut doesn't want to swivel on the end of the hose. It could get ruined just getting it undone.

Some of the kits you can buy online come with braided hose. Apparently the factory hard line gets damaged easily and is difficult to replace. I got the braided hose kit but my hard line disconnected without trouble so I put the extra hose away for now.
