I must have not searched correctly bc I am sure this has been covered but couldn’t find what I wanted.
My new to me 1993 is leaking oil, the bottom of the CAS is covered so I know I need an new o ring.
The question is which one? Some people say OEM. Some say Vinton? I saw there is one on the flyin Miata site. So which is the best to get?
Also should I do the valve cover gasket at the same time? I don’t see much oil leaking from it, but the whole back has oil on it so don’t know if that is all just from the CAS.
I think I bought mine at NAPA. I think the heat/time destroys them so anything you put in there will fail eventually. I did my valve cover and cas along with the timing belt. Do you know when it was replaced?
No need to get fancy. They do last for a good amount of time.
You'll probably have to replace the valve cover gasket at the same time, as what destroys the CAS O-ring will also destroy the gasket. It'll be hard and crunchy.
It's also easier to get the CAS back on if you take the valve cover off, so like Keith said - be prepared with a new VC gasket as well.
I just did mine again today, it's fiddly but not too bad.
I have a number of Viton o-rings laying around after I bought a pack to do one. Then I bought another pack when I had to do another car and found my original ones immediately after the job was done. If you PM me your address I'll mail you a couple.

Have no idea when timing belt was done. Good idea to think about at same time though I am sure.
