Today i started the big miata rocker rust repair project. Ill get pics up soon. Cut out the rust, and picked, chipped, and swore at the rest of loose stuff till it looked good. Grinders, sander, and wirewheels came out, and i must say its looking good. Borught out the ole MIG and patched a few tiny holds and stuff, and tommorow i make the big patch panel and finish up.

Its actually more fun then i thought. There is a perverse satisfaction in cutting parts off a car...

Are you sure that's as far up as the rust goes? I thought it could extend much farther without being seen immediately.

And on a scale of 3-12, how difficult would you say this is? I cannot weld, but my father can. Do you just go around the panel making spot welds, skipping from one side to the opposite to prevent overheating, until you eventually cover the whole seam with weld? I'm going to try it with mine when I get some time and when I'm at the parents' house for a while.

Thanks for the pictures and encouragement!

Im pretty sure, but not completely certain. Im cool with this. Painted it with rust inhibitor and just am happy with how its been.

Overall i would say this was a 8-9. I dunno though cause ill try anything i guess. The hardest part is bending the metal patch panel....welding is easy as was cutting out the old and cleanup

Very interested in your results. On the last picture, it looks like there's quite a bit more rust hiding in the panel - how did you get to that?

Contemplating the same thing on my car. Only issue is the rocker rust on an otherwise very nice/mechanically sound car.
