Yes, except that LEOs will stop you for wearing a helmet in a car. Blocks your hearing too much. Doesn't matter if it is safer in every other way.

Except using ear buds are illegal in lots of states because they "interfere with hearing"..
Somehow, in nanny-state logic, a helmet on a motorcycle does not block your view or your hearing but does in an automobile.
Somehow a seatbelt is mandatory for all passengers in motor vehicles, except school buses with children, which only very recently were made to conform to the seatbelt laws, before that it was unsafe to require seat belt usage in school buses. Bumpers are required on all vehicles for safety reasons, except some trucks which do not come with bumpers, then they aren't required.
