1 so far, a 1999 complete base model (even had crank up windows) that we bought for $9500, drove for 5-6 years, and sold for $7500. The only work was brakes, tires, and scheduled maintenance, except for a set of KYB AGX shocks. Only sold to free up cash for home improvements. Once the old house sells (if it ever does, sigh) then I hope to get another.

3 right now, and total. 2 Spec Miatas, and 1 in the process, although since I bought the second Spec Miata I may just convert the in-process #3 into a complete stripper street car (no side windows, no top, no interior...) and just thrash it about...

Had a '90 for about six months. Didn't fall in love with it, but I think the engine was tired and I know it needed shocks...

Could see doing another, but mostly in a strictly pragmatic tool for racing way...

Zero. If these are such great cars, why do you guys have to keep replacing them?

First one I've owned is an '89 manufactured NA.

I bought it last summer in straight, clean, under-maintained condition for $3500 and immediately doubled it's price with a week of driving and diagnosis followed by a call to Flyin' Miata. Following:

Rebuilding the cooling system/cam belts/cover seals-gaskets/crank pulley bolt+key/clutch+R main seal/Raceland header+FM 2nd pipe-high flow cat-cat back exhaust/FM stage 2 suspension/urethane bushings everywhere/rear wheel bearings/SS brake lines+fresh pads/FM chassis rail+butterfly brace/lots of new trim/a set of fresh Direzza Z1 'specs.

...It's a new car. And, at 20+ years old it's eligible for a historic license plate in MD. And I say "plate" 'cause a Miata is one car that looks awful w/ a front plate.

I just ordered a new Robbins top for it. Once that's installed it should be solid for a long, long time. At 128k miles it pulls well, uses about no oil and has good oil pressure.

Count me in for 3.

First one was a '92. Forget what Mazda called it, but it was electric blue w/hardtop. Had it for about a year and a half, sometime around '01 or '02

Second was a '91. Only had it for a few weeks. Decided it wasn't what I was looking for. That was sometime around '06

Currently own an '06. Bought it just over a year ago. Love it.

Actually, you could say I had 4 if you count the one I bought on Ebay but never actually took possession of (issues with the seller).

My first Miata: a Silver 1991 with manual windows, locks, steering but with LSD and A/C. I'm only 2 1/2 tanks of fuel into ownership.

On my first 95 base model with STS mods.

Unfortunately, I have had bad luck with it. Did a ride along with the PO when looking to purchase it, motor let go.. PO put in a JY motor, exploring the hell of cranknose problems in addition to a cold start oil supply problem. Now at my place for motor #3 (thankfully first replacement on my dime) Maintaining a positive attitude. This time I am doing the timing belt and seals on an engine stand before installation to check condition of the crank nose.

Does it count for bonus points if I have another corner of the holy trifecta? (E30)

I moved to Miatas after owning three E30's. I had an NA for four years, and have had my NB for five and a half.

In '97 I bought a '95.

Sold it in '99 when I could get a brand new Miata.

And still have that '99. 182k miles, 28-30mpg, snow, blizzard, thundershowers, salt, whatever. One of the best cars I've ever owned. Still the only new car that I have personally gotten. And I'm pretty sure I've gotten every cent out of it.

Then again, the Miata.net has been a good resource, just like this board.

(joking actually- haven't done anything to the '99 outside of move the EGR vac line)

I only have one, a '96 M Edition, since 2003. My wife doesn't want me to have multiple Miatas, and since I haven't been able to afford but one, that hasn't been a problem. One day, i'll be able to afford another. We'll argue. I'll win.

2 - A 1991 winter beater with rusty fenders that lasted two years of OH salt with no problems whatsoever and a 1999 parts car I bought from a friend who fell asleep at the wheel and then it went into another friends CSP car.
