I remember checking these auctions out a few years ago and seeing deuce-and-a-half's selling for like $2k. I wanted to buy one but between not really knowing what I would do with it, having no place to store it, looking at the logistics of transporting a heavy truck in unknown running condition several hundred miles, and having to explain all this to the wife, I decided I could live without one. A humvee would be sweet though, and a whole lot easier to get home.
Cool, not sure what you'd do with one unless you had a property big enough to drive it on though. You can't title it for road use, unless you happen to live in a state with very loose Assembled Vehicle laws.
My wife said I should replace the Elise with a HUMVEE. She thinks it would be difficult for me to get hurt in one of those, compared to the Elise.

Legality won't matter when the dead have risen and are walking the earth.

You'd think so....but with our luck, only the lawyers will survive the apocalypse.
Jest got this text from a friend:
"I was just talking with a coworker/friend who I don't see that often. He's into Jeeps and ATVs. He just got back from driving from Wisconsin in a military H1 and a military Unimog. His uncle bought them at auction. They flew out and drove back...NO LICENSE PLATES! Just the paperwork from the auction. I saw the photos, so I know it's not bull.
The Unimog has all kinds of attachments. A backhoe, a plow and hydraulic chainsaw. "
Edit: from Wisconsin to Foster, RI where they've been clearing land with the Benz. He's got 5 acres.
Just wear a camo hat and jacket when you drive it, and make sure you're clean-shaven. What cop is going to pull over a military vehicle he thinks is just transiting someplace on military business?
I know you can drive a car in CO for something like 24 hours on a bill of sale. Dunno if it applies to military auction vehicles, though
Unfortunately they are arranging these sales with an attempt at preventing them from ever being titled and tagged. Assuming they are in as good of condition as stated it's a darn shame that they are relegated to being 4x4 toys or tools for bringing a boat to the dock.

Hm. Vintage F1 car down interstate 70?
cough

It's OK. Nobody visits the Offroad section anyways LOL
I remember awhile back I was really researching how cheap I could get one. The cheapest I found was $23k and was a two door cargo model with no top, doors or seats. It didn't run either. Too much money for a lawn ornament.
I have no idea how Humvees should be priced, but a lot of the equipment seems a bit high priced considering age condition, and presumably hard use. Many of the pieces have only been visually checked, not test run. Those auctions are for suckers.
There were several ex military Hummvees tagged and driving around southern Ohio years ago. Three were two in the town our shop was in.

I've been doing a lot on an H1 over the past year or so. A lot of parts are available. Funny thing is, a LOT of the parts are tagged "Not for sale or use on military vehicles."
Civilian-spec H1s and mil-spec HMMWVs are apparently quite different. One of the biggest things I'm aware of is that the electronics and everything in the H1 are not waterproof, HMMWVs are. When you put the snorkel on the military vehicle to do a little river fording, the truck fills with water but that's okay since the electrics are waterproof and every gearbox/transfer box/etc vent has a huge manifold that vents to the snorkel. The civilian models have the huge breather manifold too (two diffs, four geared hubs, transmission, transfer case) but they don't go to the air inlet.
It was kind of a fight, and I still have a bunch more work to do, but I managed to squeeze a supercharger next to the LS motor. And invent a belt routing. And plumb the durn thing so the hood didn't need to be cut. That one was the worst...
In reply to ebonyandivory: The UNIMOG is called a SEE, or Small Emplacement Excavator. They are tiny inside, and the suspension is so soft that they bounce all over the place. I'd hate riding on the highway in one.
Great way to get tools into the field. Great for digging fighting positions for the infantry bubbas.
I see if says no title is provided, which is typical of these types of auctions, but if they'll provide you with an sf97 form you should be able to get a title. I have two ex military vehicles, a cucv and a 5ton, and both are titled and legal for road use. If you can't get an sf97 for these then, sure, getting a title might be a pipe dream.
It would be awesome if that Black Eyed Peas guy merged his car company with the military supplier and created "will.i.AM General"
I have no idea why anyone would want a military humvee.
Those special order Excursions that were issued to federal agencies in Afghanistan are the E36 M3. And so are the G-wagons that were made for service in Afghanistan. Those I want. Wish I could've hopped a ride in the G-Wagon but that Excursion just put smiles on my face.
In reply to yupididit:
What were the specs on the excursion? I don't think I've ever seen a mil spec excursion.
