The other day when I was puttig my catalitic converter back on to the car the shift linkage bumped in the process. Sense this happen to get the car in first gear I have to push down as if I am going into reverse. And as of now the car dose not go into reverse.
Would moving the linkage in the other direction be a quick fix?? Can the GRM brain help?
Thank you
Man that had to be a hell of a bump!
IIRC (it has been 7 years or so) it isn't the most adjustable thing. Check first that the bushings didn't become dislodged
The earlier cars had splines on the end of the main shift rod where the pivot ball attached and you made that adjustment there. I honestly can't remember if the A3's had them
I think you're right about the splines.
There's a little alignment tool for MK2/3 cars, too.
The internet says it's VW Tool #3104.
Geeze. The tool for a1's was a cassette case or a 9 volt battery
Thanks, I should be able to look at it Monday night
FYI. If you need any shifter bushings etc. I may have what you need. I came into a sh*t load of 020 trans parts and shift linkage bushings, that I know I don't all need.
Last year the ball on the pivot ball of my race car came apart but the shifter still worked although you had much longer shift movements to select gears.
