Bob Wollek Valliant Porsche 935 K2
Posting here, since it wasn't part of the group builds. This is the Platz BMW M6 GT3 with 2019 Sebring decals from Racing Decals 43. I only added tow straps, photo etched seat belt hardware, the antenna farm on the roof, and sheet brass dive planes. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.
Next build, A USED CAR!
I have chosen a 1969 Chevelle that I rescued from a thrift shop. It has been pre-painted so the first step is to undo what has been done.
Sometimes, one must go backwards to go forward. Into the bath with you!
It looks like enough is there to do this. To infinity and beyond!
Scott
Thanks, guys! I think this is my favorite car model. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.
@TurnerX19, it's a good kit but every part needs some cleanup. The fit of the chrome parts for the lights is vague. Ignore when the kit instructions say to glue the radiator and duct assemblies to the chassis. Glue them to the inside of the body, instead. They take some grinding to get them to fit properly.
@Scott, looks like that will be a fun build!
I'll post some long-term builds here too, since I keep picking away at them in the background.
First is this NASCAR Taurus that I 90% built years ago, and the chassis paint looks real bad, but it's a race car so I'm pressing onwards. The windshield doesn't want to stay in place. Anyhow, I started placing decals. This is the race-winning Sharpie/Rubbermaid car from the 2002 Food City 500 at Bristol. I loved the "dollar bill" scheme they had for the contest they were doing at the time.
Several decals placed, many many more to go:
I will post a few here , as I too have several slow builds on going, as well as a lot of finished pieces. One for the Kei people, a 1/24 Capucino in a slightly purple metallic gray home mix.
Ongoing build, complete except te exterior mirrors. Kit begun in 1990 when I opened and hinged the trunk. stalled when I realized I would have to paint it with the lid on....I opened the box and contemplated it every year or two. In January this year I realized I had mixed the perfect color for it several years ago for the 1/43 Cobra, and the paint might not keep any longer. So I tried, and it worked OK, one of those comfort zone things....I opened the trunk because the Fujimi Enthusiast kit came with a full tool roll and spare tire. Major fit issues getting the body onto the chassis and getting the trunk to clear the top boot.
This MGTC kit was started around 1990 like the Ferrari above, but was the first kit I completed when I settled in to Pennsylvania in '91. Hand laced wire wheels to replace the terrible originals, and a host of extras im the engine room. Mot a model of any specific TC, just a typical car from the era. Completed before i could computer generate license tags.
AC Bristol chassis # BEX404 converted from the AMT Cobra 260, with engine from Heller BMW 328. Lots of body work required, it isn't just the fender flares. The trunk lid is vastly larger than the Cobra too. Begun in the mid 1980s, completed in 2018 and shown first at the first Philadelphia NNL in the Simeone Museum.
If we're doing older builds, here's one I never finished. I had high hopes of building a diorama of Road Atlanta's Turn 11 (pre-chicane) during an '80s club race in the early '00s, but got distracted by playing racing videogames (my original 1/24 concept would have been the size of a house door :D). Here's the ITA V6 Ford Capri I started working on. I had a serious crush on a girl who had a racer dad (and they were a Ford family) back then, so I cut and re-figured one of the old 1/24 Fujimi "Trophy Girls" figures into a driver to put her into the seat. A smear of Squadron White over trophy girl's curves made made the suit, don't know where I found the helmet. Belts are tape with Tamiya flat black, buckles are photo-etch.
The bad top-coat turned out red, I just said "..oh, she's been off the road at Road Atlanta!" Blue & white paint scheme was inspired by RS200 livery.
And here's 'Michelle'.
I once had an old Monogram F-250 extended cab pickup. It got painted and repainted and hacked up and had a (terrible) flatbed made of real wood at one point, and then it got smashed or destroyed somehow.
I recently found the only remaining piece of it: the left side of the bed.
It's caked with paint and it's basically useless, because it won't fit the AMT truck kits. Unless!
Where do you see trucks with only one side of the bed left on them? Short course racing!
So, I need to figure out how to build a 90s off-road tube chassis from scratch, then buy a cab to go with it, and then slap this fender on and pretend it's fiberglass. OK but the only cab that fits is the F250 and F350 from Revell/Monogram. Well, I'll get the F350 because it's a dually, then I'll have some cool dually parts to use for something else. Oh, but it's an extended cab. So I'll have to saw it apart and shorten it up to a regular cab without distorting it.
I will never ever finish this project, but I'm gonna start it.

That's an excellent selection of kits there! The Mustang is really fun to build. I somehow never had one of those Cobras, but I want one now.
Other model kits I've been picking at here and there include:
A Revell New Beetle with optional tuning parts! I think I had the genius idea just now to paint it flourescent green.
A Revell Mustang Turbo Cobra, with the not-good carbed turbo 2.3 engine. It's a real mixed bag of a kit, with what looks like mild box flares and cool custom wheels, but fiddly plastic tires and these gaping holes in the C-pillar that should be solid and some ugly side louvers to cover them up.
It's also lacking detail in several places and requires a fair amount of flash removal. It would've been ok in 1980 but this is a re-release from the 2000s-ish, and it seems like an odd choice. I'm gonna build it up like a pseudo Kelly American Challenge car and try to scratch build some engine parts to make it look hopped up.
