Oddly, the 1st gens might have actually been better handling cars than their contemporaries and even the subsequent generations, but the build quality suffered and the power wasn't anywhere near the insanity that the SRT-4 provided.

Dropping an SRT4 into a 1st gen has been done.

2 years neon free. Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in. I think I need ChryCo support group.

Video comments say it has ~600 hp. I had one of these and with an upgraded turbo from AGP (and a host of parts from Modern Performance) and man that thing could do some fun straight-line pulls. Amazing how well he was able to delicately manhandle that thing around the track.

Now there's a thought - do you think an 818 frame could be modified to fit?

Why not just find a Consulier? Probably would be a direct bolt-in, maybe have to play musical axleshafts.

I heard they handle okay.

in the past I've wanted to bolt on a new set of tires and try this .. with the goal of NOT being DFL

in the yrs past I'm pretty sure I could have accomplished my goal … this yr DFL was 9 sec quicker than I've ever gone before … don't know how much I'd pick up with the new pavement and the wider run-offs at T3, T10 and Oak Tree .. but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't give me 9 sec

For style contrast, here's a 1'57.996" in a car w/ about 175hp at the rear wheels. The straights are much slower, the corner speeds a little faster. Topped out in 6th up the climbing esses. Fun!

(This lap was my first and only clear lap in the first timed session, and ended up being my only clear lap of the day)

Good idea, but they might be hard to come by.

The transverse inline four can be pretty wide and tall and could cause packaging issues.

Not impossible, but for the effort, you'd be better off finding a Consulier or build a MidLana.

I had a 1996 ACR with SRT4 swap - it was hilarious!!
