In reply to GTXVette:

That will be really exciting if Chase Elliott wins the Cup race this weekend and they sound the siren at the Dawsonville Pool Room!

A question for the forum. If 'shiners were still running today what car would they drive? My guess is a blacked-out police style Tahoe complete with spotlights on the fender. That way they would be confused with either an unmarked police cruiser or a deer spot lighter

The only issue is that the hootch could be in an officer's "plain sight" in the back.

I think the P71 would be pretty popular due to the presence of a proper trunk.

Of course one of the most popular drug running vehicles are completely nondescript old minivans and work vans, so that's another possibility.

Its just Kool to see the early 50's and 60's shine runners and old Nascar racers and drivers, Funny how what was High Tech then is minor league now.

I think we had a thread on the topic of hypothetical modern moonshining a few years back...but now that I think of it some more, back in the day moonshiners would've killed for an AWD car, but these days they'd very rarely have to deal with dirt roads so traction isn't so important.

So a P71 is a good choice. Doesn't stand out, decently quick, big cargo capacity. HD springs and airbag suspension would be ubiquitous among moonshiners for handling and hiding the loads they're carrying. They'd fit the cars with radio monitoring setups to listen to police scanners and find the distance and direction to the nearest police car.
