Road ready, just need to get to the DMV before they close today.
I am glad that the Probe did not replace the Mustang, but sad that Ford no longer has a turbocharged FWD sport coupe in the lineup. Imagine the chassis of the 2nd Gen Probe with an Ecoboost under the hood and ST tuning on the suspension.
In reply to pinchvalve:
you're somewhat close in describing a model that Ford needs to introduce, but it needs to be a smaller RWD sports coupe, under the Mustang, with a 1.6L ecoboost, 2.0L (ST Guise) and MAYBE the 2.3L (in limited RS guise) as a Frisbee twin/Miata/Z/Genesis fighter.
Although maybe with the new IRS the 2015 2.3L ecoboost Mustang may be that car, even if a bit bloated.
ABS, traction control, stability control and all the electronic nannies that we loathe have made RWD safe again for the completely undertrained, distracted and disinterested general public to drive again, effectively killing off any need or advantage to designing and producing a FWD coupe.
Ford needs to reinvent the first gen capri- throw the 2.0 Ecoboost in it, and set it right in front of the toyobaru twins.
It came out as about 10 seperate pieces :-/ I think the Differential pin came out and blew the diff apart.
Gonna have to look at the front suspension, I think the control arm bushing are needing replaced. It wonders all over the place with the throttle.
I did was the outside yesterday, gonna tidy up the engine bay next. Going to look into reinstalling the Powersteering & A/c as it never worked when i had it before.
Confirmed the driver side Ball joint has alot of play, as does the control arm bushing. I'm just replacing both sides with Moog and call it a day.
I installed new control arms on both sides of the car to resolve the cars wavy steering issues. To my surprise I found the driver side had slack in the pinch bolt for the Ball Joint as well as a crack, sourced a replacement and tomorrow the car should be in good driving condition. I do have a few issues to be addressed later like struts (the factory electric struts still work, but im sure replacing them will be an improvement.
The markings on the end of that bolt make me smirky. At least it's not a threaded hole.
What kind of options are out there for these cars as far as the struts?
Gr2s, tokico blues, and whatever fits 2nd gens. I run Illuminas.
There's some coilover options, and there used to be Konis. I have a pair of rear reds and front yellows that will work.

This?

Hey, that's pretty good! More choice than i expected.
This subject is more relevant to me now that i've fixed my 626GT and been driving it around. I'd bet money my front ball joints and LCA bushings are trashed based on the noises it's making. Struts just feel worn out.

WHAT?
When the hell did you get one?
Front ball joints and bushings, just get whole new loaded arms. About $40-$45 per side, take about 20 minutes each to install if you're drinking a few beers. The bushings in the available arms these days are a little harder than OEM, so they feel nice.
I really like the Illuminas on these cars to a point (They aren't super happy with my spring rates), but i don't know if they're 1) even still available (I got mine when the US warehouse was clearing inventory out at crackhead prices) or 2) if they're even affordable. Normal price was just stupid.
I would probably be happy with blues, i have no real suspension plans for it other than making it not worn out.
Its an 88 626 gt hatchback turbo/5spd. White outside blue inside, 140k. Stock other than FC bbs wheels. Came with an mx6 parts car too! I traded my 87 Dakota for them a few months ago. They had been sitting in a friend's backyard since 07 but i never cared enough to pay his price until i figured out how to get them in a trade, but i also.. didnt try to help anyone outside my local friends get their hands on them that whole time.. I always harbored latent plans to snag them for next to nothing even before i knew about the GRM f2t contingent.
If yall need anything from an mx6 im taking requests. Probably keeping most of the drivetrain as spares, though.
Oh god you're failing so hard.
Put that bitch through its paces so we can finally get a direct comparison between a turbo mopar and an F2T car dammit! I know my MX6 will mob all over Garaithon_GRM's Shelby Shadow, but i'm not 100% sure how optimized that car was.
If you get the blues, do yourself a favor and just grab some Eibach springs for it, too. Probably won't handle MUCH better than stock, but it won't be so monster-truck-y. These things sit seriously high stock, and i'm sure i've negatively affected handling slamming mine as far as i have, but it looks cool, handles better than stock, and i don't have any binding issues yet. (My control arms sure do point UP, though!)
Make a build thread! There's no sense in NOT doing some of the mods that won't affect reliability, right? RIGHT?
What year mx-6? I'm hunting hard for a drivers side knuckle/hub assembly... I called a yard an hour and a half away yesterday around 4:30pm saying they have my part so I drive down this morning and they don't Berklying have it... found another yard and they wouldn let me go see the car they were pulling it off of, get home and they gave me one for a 2nd Gen... Not a good day. I really wanna start daily driving this beast, but as it sits I can move the drivers side wheel 1/2-3/4" from slack in the balljoints hole that has worn.
Well, i came into the mazda at an ironic time because im currently putting together a 2.2 for my dodge spirit (engine in it has pitting in cylinder walls), which is an extremely similar car in a lot of ways. ~2900 lb 4dr 2.2/5spd turbo intercooled with all stock drivetrain parts other than exhaust and injectors.
It would be cool to see what they do psi for psi, but i suspect the spirit has higher limits on stock parts just because the dodges actually came with a good sized turbo. One of the reasons i dont have big plans for the 626 yet is because to get a 'real' turbo on it without deleting AC or STILL having a E36 M3ty looking turbine discharge pipe, you have to do some real work and that bumps it pretty far down the list when ive just started working on my SRT4 Caravan and took the engine apart in my Spirit.
I would have to double check as im not keeping the parts car at my house but i think the mx6 is an 89 or 90. Did the spindles change at some point? Honestly, if you need something in a hurry i probably wont be much help, and i dont really want to make the mx6 'unrollable' until like the day before it goes to scrap.
